Maddie pulled on her vans, quickly rushing around her room to put on some lipstick and hydrating herself. She had decided of sneaking out tonight. To meet with Jay, for their date.
Quickly brushing through her waist length hair she added any final touches before turning off her lights and waiting to hear for any movement.
When she heard none she slowly opened up her window, texting Jay to let him know she was leaving.
She threw one leg out the window and hopped out landing safely on her feet.
She walked around her apartment alley, out into the streets of New york. She walked ahead to the open park for the meet up spot of their sudden "late night picnic"
The humid air hit her face as she brushed her hair back, the frizziness already showing. She huffed and sped up, hoping to show up there before she looked a total mess.
Soon she entered through the black gates of the park, she pulled out her phone to check for Jays response.
When she got none, she groaned and looked around. Without her glasses, Maddie couldn't see far. Before she could much movement, two hands had appeared before her eyes.
"Guess who?"
"Geez, your so annoying" Maddie tsked.
"Your no fun."
Maddie turned around to face him, pulling him into a hug.
"I'm plenty fun!"Jay hugged back, kissing her forehead before pulling back and holding her hand to lead her to the picnic.
They walked slow, making their way to a clear grassy area where a set of sheets and a small basket was.
They sat down on the sheet, Maddie making sure her skirt was fluttered downward to keep some dignity.
Jay picked up the basket and pulled out two battery powered candles.
"Lighting."
Maddie chuckled and smiled. The humid air had somewhat cooled, her hair not a frizzy mess.
She stared at Jay as he set up the candles, taking out a couple of chips and chocolate covered strawberries.
"Okayy, we went all out with the chocolate strawberries huh?"
"Only the best for my lady," Jay smiled at her, which Maddie returned.
Maddie grabbed the small box of strawberries taking one out and holding it up for Jay to take a bite out of.
They continued the small picnic like this, talking between themselves and feeding each other. Only ever getting more and more closer.
By the end of it, the empty packets and boxes were placed back into the basket. The couple had ended up laying on the sheets and staring up at the stars (or what showed), Maddie tucked under his arm and his head resting above hers.
Jays fingers were playing through her hair and she found it harder and harder to stay awake.
"Should we leave soon? I have to head home before my parents find out."
"Mhm.. can I walk you home?"
"Sure" Maddie reluctantly got up, brushing her skirt down before grabbing the end of the sheet to fold it.
"Y'know you don't have to do all that, Aya will end up washing it anyways."
"I know, but still."
Maddie took the folded sheet and tucked it into the basket closing the lid and handing it to Jay.
She checked her phone for any messages, the only one being was from Aya.AYA:
don't get white stuff on my sheet.Maddie giggled, holding her phone in one hand and Jays in the other. Her fingertips meeting on top of his knuckles like they always did.
They walked home slowly, desperate to spend more time together. When they reached the front of her apartment complex Jay held the basket on his elbow and took both her hands.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Jay brushed his hand on her face, resting it on her jaw and pulling her face closer for a kiss. Maddie accepted it with a smile. Resting her head on his chest she sighed, wishing that this would never end.
"Cmon, we gotta get you into that window before your father ends up killing me."
Maddie laughed. She pulled back, pulling her window open even more. Jay stood on his knee holding his palms out for her to put her shoe on. She climbed up, from the assistance of his hand she climbed through her window and got inside.
Maddie turned back around to look out the window, staring down at her love.
"I love you" she whispered.
"Love you too," Jay winked and saluted at her. Smiling he slowly left, walking around and on his way back home.
Maddie watched him walk, smiling ever so wholeheartedly.
