1: Bus stop

Kim Yeon hae POV

I quickened my pace as the clouds gathered in the sky. I had admired the postcard-perfect sky up until now. Enormous clouds created a blanket that obscured the old-gold colour of the sun.

The first splatter of rain hit me when I was halfway across the road. I took shelter under an old bus stop, hoping that the rain would stop. Droplets of moisture dripped from the leaves and they sprinkled onto the grass like a gardener’s hose. As the rain became more intense, the raindrops drummed against the metal. The rain fell on the ground and blurred into one long, whirring noise.

The aromas of petrichor filled the air from the emerald grass. I noticed a figure, just like me, running in the hard rain. I waved at him, telling him to come faster before he could get all wet in his business attire. His black coat was above his head, trying to prevent him from getting wet.

I extended my hand out so that he could latch on to it and come inside without slipping. His pants were half wet down the knees and his coat was dripping with water drops. He came inside, capturing my wet hands with his one. I can feel the heat radiating from his hands to mine. I released my hand and sat down there on the rusty metal seat.
He looked at me and bowed.
“Thank you, “he said in his breathy voice. As he ran all across the road, he gulped in large amounts of air. Taking off his black, rain-drenched coat, he sat in the rusty seat near me and began to pat his wet hair. What was it about him that made him so good-looking? His features drowned me in a swirl pool.

He caught me staring at him. I blinked my eyes and turned to the other side, gripping my sweater tight hoping he wouldn’t think of me as a pervert.
“Your name, miss?” He asked me as I was trying to ignore the fact that he caught me staring at him. I turned my head towards him.

“Yeon hae. Kim Yeon hae. You, Mr.?” I asked him,
He stared at me for a while. Hey! I know the look-. I mean, I know it’s a pretty name, but dude, you don’t have to be amazed by it this much.

“Kim yeon hae as in daughter of Mr Kim Chanyeol?” He asked me, ignoring my question that was projected towards him earlier.
Kim chanyeol. An interesting name, but hey I don’t know who he is.

“I don’t know about Kim Chanyeol “I replied and sighed. I signalled to him with my hands, trying to imply my question that was asked before out of curiosity. “Ahem,” I faked a cough, hoping he would understand what I was trying to signal.

“Oh sorry! I am Hwang Hyunjin” He extended his hand for a simple handshake and I gave him my hand. After a brisk shake, I left his hand. Awkwardness filled us, not knowing what to talk about in the meantime before the rain stopped venting its anger.

He was feeling awkward, too. I can tell by his actions. He was trying to search for something in his back pocket for a very long time now.

“Searching for something?” I asked. He looked at me and gave a tight smile and took his hands from his back and kept them still on his lap. He looked at me for the last time before tapping the metal, trying to calm himself down from embarrassment I guess?!

“Can I make a call with your phone?” He pointed towards my phone that peeked its head out of my bag. I looked at him and nodded positively before taking my phone out of my bag and giving it out to him after opening it.

He dialled someone’s number and talked with them for a couple of minutes before giving it to me. Our hands bristled as the known warmth lasted for a second.

I looked outside of the bus stop, trying to sense whether the rain would stop or not. The noise of the rain lessened, and the drops faded into a musical chime. The sun came out again, casting slanted beams of light across the road. The steam rose slowly from the grass at the corner. The image was so vivid.

I stood up from my seat and went towards the edge of the stop, mesmerised by this beautiful scenery. The sun’s rays were comparatively less now as it was past 4 o’clock. My stomach grumbled, and I chuckled lightly. Then I turned towards the man I had spent time with for about thirty minutes. He was standing near a black car and was talking to someone seated in the driver's seat.

I called him to bid for my leave, but he asked me to stop.
“I will give you a ride,” He said, and I looked at him. The road was still wet and it would take a lot of time to reach my house. A brief ride wouldn’t hurt, would it?

I sat in the back seat, and he sat in the front. “Please drop me at Kat’s noodles shop, thank you,” I asked him politely and leaned back. As soon as the car stopped, I got out and thanked Hyunjin before entering my friend’s shop. Time for some noodles, yay!
