Okay fellow fangirls! Here goes!

It was a nice Spring afternoon. You were at your new apartment, bored out of your mind. It wasn't very big or posh, but it was all yours-- sort of. You shared it with some college chick who was rarely ever home.

Home. How long had it been since you'd left America? Six months? Seven?

You shrug it off and decide to watch some tv. You plop down onto the couch and turn it on, only to see the same thing on almost every channel: Kira.

You groan inwardly; you'd known about Kira back home, but here in Japan, you swore that's all anyone knew how to talk about: Kira this, Kira that, Kira's a murderer, Kira is our hero, Kira is our God, Kira Kira Kira. It was exhausting.

So you turn the tv back off and trudge to the kitchen, looking for something to eat. You open the fridge.

"Oh, come on Mai," you grumble. "Really?"

Your stupid roommate had raided the fridge and left you virtually nothing to eat except old take out.

You slam the refrigerator door shut in frustration. Couldn't you have something decent for once, an actual meal? Something fresh, like, like apples?

Apples. Your stomach grumbles.

"You know what?" You say to no one. "I'm going to buy some apples."

You thank the street vendor and go on your way. You'd just boughten a nice big bad of big, red, juicy looking apples, and your mouth was watering at the sight and smell.

"Well, I'll just have one now and eat it on the walk home." You say to yourself.

Suddenly someone runs past you, nearly knocking you and herself over in the process.

"Sorry!" She says. "I'm late!"

"No problem," you say, barely looking up. You see something on the ground. "Hey, wait! I think you dropped your--!"

But the girl was gone. You stare at the black notebook lying face down on the ground. Finally, you bend over and pick it up. You toss it in your purse, thinking you'll open it up later to see if there was a way to find the girl and give it back.

But what if it's her diary? You think to yourself. Or some other sort of personal log?

You shake your head. It's probably just a school notebook, you think. Maybe I'll see her again on Monday; maybe we go to school together.

You pull out that apple you'd promised yourself and take a bite out of it, wondering what was in the black notebook. It looked like a nice notebook; something someone would buy for a diary or writing a personal novel or something.

What if she's a writer? You wonder. Or a song writer? Dozens of ideas play through your head as you walk. You're a block away from your building When your curiosity gets the best of you and you take the notebook out of your purse. You turn it over carefully in your hands; your brow furrows when you read the inscription on the front.

"Death Note?" You ask yourself. "What the heck is a Death Note?"

You open it up and see names. Some just names, others were names, times, and causes of death.

"Is she studying forensics or something?" You wonder aloud. But then you notice something different. As you turn the pages, you start to recognize names from tv. You stop. This is a log of all of Kira's victims.

"Uh-oh," says a strange voice. "Light's not gonna like this..."

You turn around slowly. Your eyes widen and you drop your apple when you see it; some sort of demon with a horrible smile.
