Early into my 15th year.
I woke up early, 6:00am, to early.
I swung my legs out of bed and shuffled off. I landed with a plod onto my varnished wooden floor.I walked over to my chest of draws to pick up my arm with my arm. It seems weird but, since the terminal cancer my life will never be the same again. I fixed the small silicone covered metal on a stump just below my elbow. I winced, it hurt. Strange, it's never done that before. I removed the arm. I felt my scar. I screwed up my face, it really hurt. A tear appeared in my left eye. I screwed in my arm again, more gentle this time. I hopped over to my en-suite, this sounds really fancy but that was just one of my cancer perks. These come very often, even after my illness had passed. I stare into the mirror. I place my hands onto the opposite sides of the sink and exhale deeply. I turn on the cold tap and let it run for a bit. I cup my hands and let them fill with water. I splash water onto my face and let the cool sensation run down my face. The last few drips fall off my nose. I look up into the mirror. Grabbing the hand towel off the rack, I wipe my face, turn, walk into my room and run down stairs for breakfast.
Mum has taped a note to the side of my shimmering white bowl, full to the brim with Cookie Crisp™ and semi-skimmed milk. The note reads:
Just nipped to the town centre to get so more milk, you had the last.
Love you xxI pull out the vibrant orange stool and sit down. Grabbing my bowl and spoon I start to chomp away at the cookie crisp™. The stairs start to creak eerily on each step, creak, creak, creak. The door swings open. I jolt in fear.
My dad, in a full black suit, black ear piece, black aviators and black slicked at his parting hair.
"Hey Matt" he says, raising his hand.
"Hi Dad" I reply, my mouth full of cereal.
"I need to go to work, do you know where your-" My dad was cut off by my mum walking into the house with bags of shopping.
"You said you where just getting milk!" I exclaim. My mum walks into the kitchen, followed by me. With my bowl and spoon, I prop the bowl up in the dishwasher and rinse the spoon out in the sink. My mum had dumped the bags on the side and was already alphabetising everything. after a few seconds she was down the last bag. Then, finally, she opened the fridge and slotted the milk into place.
"Mum, I might think about going to the mall today with Willow and James."
"How much do you need?"
"What makes you think I need money- yeah, can I borrow $30?"
"Alright, here. But spend it wisely!"
"I will." I say as I slam the dishwasher shut and run past mum and dad, into the hallway. I race to put on my Converse grab my denim jacket and pull it over my 'The Big Bang Theory' tee-shirt. I sprint down the road, I trip when I try to dodge the oncoming bike. I fall flat on my face.
The man on the bike looks over his shoulder and yells,
"Moron!"
As he swings his head back around, he slams into a lamp post and flys off his bike and he hits the kerb.
I stand and brush my self off and yell at him,
"That's Karma, you stupid ass hole!"
I don't have a proper religion but karma is used by a lot of people so, its okay. I then start to run again.I reach the bus stop just in time panting like mad dog. As I step onto the bus, I see a girl standing to leave the bus, I vaguely hear her say,
"Sorry girls, I've left my phone on my bed. I'll meet you at the mall."
She try's to leave the bus, but my big clumsy body
bumps into her sending her falling back into a chair near the front of the bus. I however fall out of the bus. I quickly get up and rush over to her, I hold out my right 'hand' and help her up. At the moment when we are both still standing our eyes are fixed into a gaze. Her green eyes sparkle in the morning sun. We abruptly let go of hands, I apologise and let her off the bus. I walk to the back of the bus sit and start to text James.
