Fires burned everywhere as the four horsemen dismounted their horses and stood atop the hill, watching through their helmets as the world burned around them, screams filling the air as they soaked in the magnificence of their foretold destruction.
They had waited a long time for this. Their bodies yearned to reap their rewards after waiting for so long. So, so long. The pain that filled the air from the remaining people alive on this foul excuse of a planet was like ecstasy to them. They savored the sweet, burning sensation as it filled their noses.
"How disappointing that this will be almost over." The horseman with the pale helmet growled as he placed a hand on his horse, stroking his coat that gleamed the same colour as his rider's armor.
"Yes... A pity indeed." The black armored horseman tightened his grip on his scythe, sighing as if bored. Despite enjoying the many flavors of pain and death in the air, he had witnessed it all before. After all, he was Death. Death was the same no matter when it was.
"Pestilence, old friend, what say you on this matter?" War asked, admiring his own sword, the flames burning brighter off it as he turned it around in the air, lighting the air around them.
"I say this grows tiresome and I would like to return to sleep." Pestilence grumbled. His horse behind him pawed the ground, as though in agreement with his master. Famine, the horseman with the pale helmet gave a deep laugh and rested a hand on his sword.
"You always did hold a high dislike for your role amongst us." Pestilence looked at his fellow horseman with what could only be assumed as disdain due to his helmet covering his face. Which was no surprise considering he was literally the bringer of plagues. Wasn't always the most fashionable of jobs.
The four of them stood there for some more time, taking in the burning, screaming, pitiful humans.
It was War who spoke first.
"My dear fellows, I do believe I have an idea to keep us, as the kids would say, 'relevant.'" His three compatriots turned to look at him. "Why should the world end now?"
"Of what are you thinking, War? Speak now or hold your peace." Pestilence turned to War, waiting. War smiled behind his helmet; black eyes gleaming between the slits that allowed.
"How would we feel, my dear brothers, about making this all happen again?"
