The night was cold and damp out. The only sounds around the house were the quiet drip drop of water hitting the window. Aries laid silently staring at the ceiling. His blonde hair falling slightly over his eyes in a fashionable manner. Once again, he had to stay and wait for his twin, Arion, to return home from work. He slowly closed his emerald green eyes and sighed, frustrated by the outcome of the day’s events. Like always, his brother had stolen a job from him. They both were on the same line of work, as an undercover FBI agent, but Arion was the ‘top’ choice for the very important Philly assignment. The Philly assignment involved every possible drug dealer within the little town of Wiki near the out skirts of Philadelphia. Yet, Aries who had been on the force two years longer had not gotten chosen for the job that was probably the biggest thing around yet, it was always Arion that got chosen. Arion was born 4 minutes ahead of Aries and after Aries had been born, their mother, Ann, had died from the birth of the two since she was only a young age of 19. Their father lost all life in himself after she had died and a week later had gotten a more permanent admiration, The Bottle. Their father, Zack, took out all of his hidden anger on Aries, since he was the younger of the two boys. Aries shivered as he remembered every second of the beatings that his father had inflicted on him.
He remembered how he had hid in the basement one night. His father had just gotten home from the bar near their house. He had come home mad since the bartender had refused to give him another drink. The bartender stated, “Zack, you’ve been here all night, why don’t you go check on the kids? Take a break from the bar for a day or two.” “Why don’t you just get the hell out of my face and leave me alone. Go give me another drink, it’s not like I’m not paying for all of this shit!” replied Zack. After this, the bartender had called his workers in the back and told them to gently remove Zack and make sure that he got home safe. ‘Zack had gotten home alright, but not very happily’ thought Aries. When Zack got home, he went of search of Aries, since Arion was out playing ball with his friends.
“Ohhhhhh Aries!!!!! Come out come out where ever you are!” He yelled angrily at the quiet house.
Aries laid under the stairs, silently putting out a prayer to not get caught. As he heard the door leading to the basement Aries cringed and closed his eyes tightly. There was nothing but silence. Then, a cold damn hand covered around Aries back neck and grabbed hard, pulling back roughly, and yanking the young 6 year old from his hiding spot. “Gottcha!” Zack yelled, smiling slightly. Aries began begging, pleading for his father not to give his the beating that he knew would be horrible. His father had still held him by the back of his neck when the beating hit Aries hard directly in his face full force. His father had never punched him before, but this time he was very drunk, and pissed off, so Aries received the beating a 27 year old man would cry about. Yet, he didn’t cry, and after the hits stopped, he got up, and slowly walked upstairs, blood running from his nose, and went to his room to sleep. Aries shook his head and stood up walking to the kitchen, not willing to remember those horrible memories. His father was gone now, who knows where, but he assumed in a bar, wasting his life away.
He turned on the coffee maker and sat in one of the stools next to the island in the huge kitchen. The twins’ house was huge, with 3 floors. A mansion some said. But it was only this way because the boys liked space, and having territory. As the sweet and bitter smell of coffee filled the house, Aries heard a door open slightly, and Arion came into the kitchen. Arion had the same features as Aries, but had sky blue eyes and dirty blonde hair.
“Hey, what are you doing up so late?” said Arion
. Aries looked up and said, “I couldn’t sleep. What? Not gonna celebrate your honorable victory tonight? Or did you come to rub it in?”
Arion looked slightly disappointed, “I came to check on you, make sure you were okay, don’t be so grumpy.”
“Whatever, there’s coffee there, I’ll talk to you later.” Aries said as he left silently. Aries went to his room and lay down. He loved his brother more than anyone, but was mad that Arion got all the fame and he got none. As Aries laid in his bed and looked out the window, he wondered what the next day would bring. He slowly drifted off into a peaceful sleep. One that he would need for what was coming. The next morning Aries found a note on the kitchen island, it said ‘Hey little bro, sorry to leave so suddenly but the office wanted me in for another job. It was important so I had to go. Take care. -Arion.’ As Aries read the note he made a mental one, never sleep while the phone is ringing. He knew that if he was the one to answer that phone call he would be the one doing the job, not Arion. ‘Oh well’ he thought, ‘no one told you to be so lazy’. Aries dressed and got into his car, driving to the nearest Starbucks. He went through the drive through and ordered an all black coffee with no sugar, his usual. As he got into the office, no one knew which twin he was. He could tell by the confused look on their faces, but their welcoming smiles were still appreciated. He went to his personal office and did paper work, knowing that this was all he would be able to do until his brother got back from his job, since Arion was his partner. Aries did the same plan for a week, and still his brother had not shown. He became worried, and finally went to the boss’s office. He knocked and once he heard his boss say,
