A second chance

Chapter 1

Kristin and Remy had gone to the prison to interview a witness. Kristin had a bad feeling the whole way there but couldn't explain it to herself.

"What did you do with your evening?" asked Remy of his colleague.

"Hmmm I read a book, Ingrid was at her dad's..."

"And your boyfriend wasn't there?" inquired Remy.

Kristin turned to him, she hadn't told anyone about her new relationship. Keeping this secret to herself for fear that this dream would be shattered by admitting it out loud.

"Come on Kristin, we've all noticed you've changed."

"Really?"

Remy smiled, amused by his partner's reaction.

"All we wish for you is to be happy with this man, you deserve so much Kristin. And this man is a lucky man to have a woman as exceptional as you."

Kristin smiled embarrassed at the compliments, she wasn't the type to see herself as deserving.

"His name is Joe. We met stupidly at a party at the theater, there was a friendship drink, I was uncomfortable and wanted to leave but the organizers insisted that people stay. And Joe was in the same state of mind as me, we talked and the feeling passed." smiles Kristin thinking about the man she is dating and who makes her feel good.

"And what does this Joe guy do for a living?" asked Remy "it would save me from digging into his past to know that he's clean and not a danger to you."

"He works at the embassy, and he's clean."

The duo questioned the witness, but Kristin's unease only grew stronger... until an alarm sounded. The witness looked panicked as Kristin looked at Remy and the room...

"There's a riot... I'm going to die!" the witness panicked.

"Remy we need to get out of here! Two federal agents we're dead..."

"It's too late, the inmates have taken over the prison, we can't get out." announced a guard.

Remy watched his agent, a woman in a man's prison, she was in grave danger. There was no way those pigs would lay their hands on them.

"Do you have a room with a little more security than this?" asked Remy of the guard, pointing to Kristin.

"Remy, no..." began the concerned one.

"This is non-negotiable Gaines."

Outside, Isobel had just received the news about the hostage situation and rushed to the JOC where Agent Scott's agents had come to check in and exchange information.

"Attention everyone, I just heard there's a riot going on at the prison, I want everyone on this!" exclaimed Isobel.

"What does that have to do with us?" asked Jubal.

"It's turning into a hostage situation. Kristin and Remy are there," Isobel revealed darkly.

It was a blow to Remy Scott's team, theirs was in danger. Everyone thought of Kristin who had been through so much...

"We'll get them out of there," Sheryll whispered to Hanna.

"I'm afraid for Kristin," the agent admitted.

A group of inmates had cornered the agents in a cul de sac, Kristin tried to keep her calm although she was terrified inside. After all she had been through, and especially survived, she couldn't die like that, not when luck and happiness were finally smiling on her...
