I STARED BLANKLY at Adrian, trying to register what he had just said to me. He plotted my break up, as in, he deliberately fed Thomas with lies to make him end things with me.

Adrian stared at me with emotionless eyes, watching what my next expression would be. His dissolved smirk told me that he seemed to be pleased by how things were going. Bastard.

I left him unattended and walked into the backroom to change out of the cafe's apron. As I headed for the main door of the cafe and walked past the counter, Adrian grabbed my wrist and pulled me back to him. I yanked my hand out of his and, with that same hand, slapped him hard across the cheek. I glared at him for a second, then stormed out of the cafe.

I strode down the sidewalk like a dead man walking, one without thoughts or feelings. My mind had gone blank ever since those words escaped Adrian's lips without any fear. I had no idea what to do or what to think about the situation. The only person that filled my mind at that moment was Thomas.

My stride turned into a jog as I turned left at the T-junction. Arriving at his apartment building, I was just about to walk in when Annabelle's call entered.

"Hey," I said into my phone's microphone, stepping away from Thomas's apartment building.

"Are you done with work for today?" She asked, "I'm on my way to pick you up."

Just as she said that, the bright headlamp of a vehicle shone in my eyes from down the road. The speed of the car as it drove towards me was all I needed to know to arrive at the driver.

"That's you, right?" Annabelle asked from the receiver end of the line.

"Yeah."

She pulled over right in front of me and opened the passenger door for me from where she sat. I hesitated for a second, turning to stare at Thomas's building. Then, I settled down in the passenger seat and closed the car door after me. I could come to Thomas's apartment tomorrow and make things right. Then, I would explain what really happened to Annabelle and the others when it was too late for them to make me change my mind. That was the most perfect plan ever.

I let a little smile overtake my lips as I thought of Thomas. He would be so relieved to find out that I never cheated on him. Everything would be back to how it was, how it was meant to be.

"Anything fun happen today?" Annabelle asked, jolting me out of my thoughts.

I desperately wanted to go on blabbing about how she, Scarlett and Samantha were all wrong about Thomas, but I needed to keep shut until everything was finalised. So, I shook my head in the negative.

"I saw you smiling for a second, so I thought something interesting happened," she said, "I thought about it all day, that name you asked me about. Where did you hear it from?"

"Adrian Everhart? He's my coworker at Beanie's. Does his name sound familiar?"

"Yeah but I can't remember where I'd heard it from," she replied, making one last turn that led to the alley.

I sighed, "Maybe we should ask Scarlett. Do I ask her to come over?"

Annabelle laughed, "Am I even coming over? I just want to make sure you get home safely. I've got loads of due assignments waiting for me in my apartment."
