".... Sir?"

There was the sound of a door creaking open, followed by a small voice, the man sitting at the desk looking back at it to see a small girl peeking inside. Instead of shooing her away, however, a cold smile came to his face as he then gestured for her to come inside. "What are you doing out of your room? We've already had a discussion about you breaking curfew; I hope you're not attempting to get out of line again." The young girl swallowed quietly at this, tugging her sleeve down a bit to cover the still fresh bruise that he was the cause of as she went to stand in front of his desk.

"I know, b-but you told me to come to you whenever I needed something.."

"Out with it then. What do you need?"

The girl kept her eyes on the floor, trying her hardest to gather enough courage to be able to speak again as she clenched her fists lightly. "... Earlier, when you made me burn that little boy for not doing his exercises.. Why did I have to do it...?"

An uncomfortable wave of silence washed over the room as she began to speak again.

"When you told me that I had to keep everyone in line, I... Uh.. I thought that only meant making sure they didn't talk loud or anything like that. But everyone you had me punish really didn't do anything wrong and-"

"Do I keep you around to speak?"

Andy flinched a bit from this, now looking up to see that the man was now staring her down in a manner that made her blood run cold. If looks could kill, she would've been 6 feet under by then. "W.. What?" She echoed meekly, watching as he stood up and walked around the desk towards her. The closer he got, the more she attempted to step back away from him, feeling her back hit the bookshelf as she had no choice but to look up at him. Before she could react, he'd grab her by the hair, forcing a pained cry out of her as her hands were attempting to make him free her but to no avail. "Do I keep you around to speak? Answer the question child."

"N-No! I'm sorry please you're hurting me-!"

"SILENCE."

The pained whimpers leaving Andy almost immediately silenced, shuddery and quivering breaths leaving her as she stared up at him with widened eyes. "This facility doesn't need weaklings that question my judgment and my reasoning for what I do around here. The ONLY reason you're even allowed to be in my presence is because your power is beneficial to the government's cause of showing the other freaks here that what they are and what they can do isn't normal; that this is the ONLY place that can fix them. You're only given the privileges of a normal person because the other children are afraid of you, and that is needed to keep them from stepping out of line." He threw her to the floor with a loud thud, staring her down as he scoffed and dusted his hands off.

"It seems like treating you as a human has made you forget that you're a monster. Those feelings of yours towards them will make you turn on me, won't they? I definitely can't have that."

Shuddery and sob laced breaths left Andy as she was holding her still bruised and now aching arm, eyes wide in panic as she couldn't even remember how to move her own legs to get out of there. "I-I won't turn on you sir I swear-!!" She started, only to watch him go to the desk and press the button.. The button that made her heart pound harder in her ears as she could already hear the footsteps coming towards the office.

"I think you need another session with the doctors to help you keep those feelings away. Don't try to fight them this time; they're not in the mood for resistance."

The man calmly sat down at his desk and watched as Andy was dragged out of the room screaming and begging to be let go, the sounds being drowned out as soon as the door closed back.

=One Week Later=

"All subjects report to the recreational area; it is time for 30 minutes of exercise."

As the children filed outside, one of them refused to leave out from there room; this prompting the headmaster to come in as he stood in the doorway and stared down the young boy. "This is your last chance to move. I won't tolerate disobedience." He warned, the boy only scoffing in response as he got off of the bed and glared back at the man. Before the other two guards could react he fired two spiked projectiles at them; nailing them in the neck as he went to attack the headmaster. Unfortunately, they didn't get the chance to; a figure stepping in and grabbing him hard by the wrists. It was none other than Andy, forcing a loud shriek of pain from the boy as she was burning his wrists while staring him down with a cold stare. Given the bandages around her wrists and over one of her eyes, it was clear where she'd been for the course of the week.

The boy stared up at her in clear horror as she silently looked back at the headmaster, keeping a hard grip on his wrists while doing so. "Do I take him to the doctors, sir?" She questioned, the man shaking his head while glancing back at the boy again. "Yes, but teach him a lesson." He responded, now turning his back to them while the boy was pleading for the smallest amount of mercy; this falling on deaf ears. "I'll know if you hold back, so don't even think about it, Andretta."

The moment the door closed, a bright light followed by pained screams sounded out, the man looking on in through the window on the door.

"That's a good girl.."

--

".... a good girl."

Andy blinked, looking around for a second before realizing she had her arm linked with an old woman; now hearing Peter calling for her across from the street as she glanced down at the old lady again. "U-Uh, I'm sorry, what did ya say, ma'am?" She questioned a bit embarrassed from how her mind wandered so suddenly. "I said thank you for helping me get across! You're such a good girl for doing so." She responded, patting Andy on the cheek lightly before she shuffled off into the building she was looking to get into. After a second of clearing her head, she headed back off to where Peter was, who looked a bit confused from what he saw. "Uh, you okay, Ann? You looked a bit.. Nervous from where I was standing. That old lady didn't try and rob you, did she?" He questioned, a small chuckle leaving him as Andy couldn't help but laugh a bit as well. "I'm fine, just... Let my mind wander off a cliff for a second, that's all." Peter only hummed a bit from this, now gesturing to his blinking communicator.

"Well, keep your mind off the edge; Rocket's been messaging us to get back. Not that I wouldn't mind walking around a bit to piss him off, but we have all of the supplies that we need for the ship anyway. So we should probably get back before he tries to leave us again."

With that, he started to walk, looking back and seeing Andy still standing there for a moment with a lost look on her face.

"Uh... You coming or what?"

Andy snapped back to reality again, apologizing once again and following behind Peter; not noticing how she was subconsciously rubbing at her wrists once again...
