His thoughts

Nagisa woke up to his awful alarm. *BEEPBEEP BEEPBEEP BEE-* "UGH SHUT UP!" *BANG* Nagisa rolled back onto his bed hoping to get a bit more sleep, but as soon as he did his mother called him. "Nagisa what was that loud noise?" Nagisa knew that if he didn't respond right away she would get very mad, so he tried to wake up. "It was just my alarm clock." The blue-haired boy got dressed and went downstairs, where, to his surprise, his mother was baking pancakes. "Oh Nagisa, honey, you got ready fast! I decided I would make you a nice breakfast so that you could go and find your phon- I mean, concentrate on your lessons with more ease." Oh, this is all just a threat. I have to make sure to get that phone back, but that guy, he is very dangerous. I'll have to watch out. As his mother put the plate down on the table she gave Nagisa a smile that sent chills down his spine. "Thankyou." He said it as happily as possible, but in truth he was terrified. Not of his mother in this moment, but what she would do to him if he didn't bring his phone back soon. Nagisa put that thought away and started eating his pancakes.

-

'RIIIIIIIIIIIIING' Relief washed over Nagisa when he knew that he wasn't late. It had taken him very long to eat the huge amount of food his mother had made. The teacher wasn't in the classroom yet, so Nagisa thought he could have some time to get out his textbook and just sit back and relax, but even he knew that wouldn't happen. "Oi, stupid, what are you doing?" Nagisa could practically hear the smile that was on the bully's face. Someone wiped his stuff from his desk. "Why don't you go pick that up, like the little girl you are?" They erupted into laughter. Nagisa sighed, got off his seat and started picking his stuff up, when a foot landed in his abdomen, right where his mother had kicked him too. The pain came rushing in and Nagisa doubled over and started to cough heavily. "Aww, I think the wittle girlie is hurt." Someone said in baby talk. "Are you sure? I think she likes it, haha!" "Then why don't I give her another one?" Just before the person could, the teacher walked in and they went right back to their seats, leaving Nagisa coughing on the floor. "Nagisa," the teacher spoke, "why are you on the floor? And where is your textbook?" When he didn't answer because he was still coughing, the teacher started to get irritated. "Go to the principal's office, I don't want you in my class." Nagisa slowly got up and turned to leave the classroom, not looking up even once.

-

The principal was the only nice person in the entire school. He was this peculiar man called Koro Sensei, and Nagisa thought of him as a father. At least, he was the closest thing to a father Nagisa had, since his dad ran out on him and his mother when he was born. "So Nagisa, what happened this time?" "Nothing, Koro Sensei. The teacher only sent me to you because I didn't get my textbooks out on time." Koro Sensei looked at Nagisa like he didn't believe him and asked: "Are you sure, Nagisa? You know you can tell me the truth." Nagisa only nodded and looked away. He felt bad about lying, but at least there was some truth to it. After a few seconds, Koro Sensei spoke up. "So, which class did you miss? I'll teach it instead." Nagisa was very grateful looked up to him with a smile. "English." He said. "Give me your textbook." Nagisa did so. "What chapter are you on?" "Chapter 6.4." He replied. Koro Sensei started writing on the whiteboard, wondering why Nagisa's cheeks were so red, but he didn't ask. "What does this sentence mean?"

After a long day of school, Nagisa could finally go home. As he walked he let out a deep sigh, but as soon as he did he heard a familiar voice. "What's wrong? Why the deep sigh?" The redhead chuckled slightly. Nagisa looked up, only to see a big smile on the other's face. Keep it cool, Nagisa. You have to be careful! Nagisa straitened his back and simply said: "I had a long day." The redhead pouted at the lack of information and Nagisa was taken aback. He didn't know that the other could make such an expression. Karma noticed the stunned expression on the blue-haired boy's face. How cute. "Soooo, I assume you already know my name, right? Karma Akabane, call me Karma. What's yours?" Nagisa hesitated a little. Should I really tell him this? He looked back up at the smiling boy. I guess it's only right since I already know his. "Nagisa Shiota. Just call me Nagisa." Nagisa Shiota, what a cute name. "Are you going to give my phone back or should I continue heading home?" Suddenly, Karma pinned Nagisa against a wall, again. He started to get fidgety from the close proximity and his eyes couldn't focus, he wasn't used to this. Karma noticed his tough attitude falling and chuckled yet again. "Why so cold? I'm just trying to get to know you." "I-I need to get home, or my mother won't be happy." Nagisa cursed his voice for failing him. "Really now? Then I wonder how your mother feels about you not having your phone. Is that why your cheeks are so red? Or are you falling for me? Hahaha!" Nagisa wasn't processing what Karma said anymore.

(A/N this next part is what Nagisa is thinking)

Did he notice? If he did, I can't possibly tell him what my mom does. It's just a phase anyway. Things will get better. They have to. If I can just get my phone back, get good grades, do everything she wants. If I can just be perfect, she'll be like this morning. Everyday will be like that. We'll be happy again. That will happen. But will it really? Will I be good enough? Can I be perfect? Will she ever be satisfied with me? I don't think I can do it. I can't be good enough. Because I'm worthless. My mother is right.

Without Nagisa noticing it, tears started to well up in his eyes and roll down his face. Karma panicked a little and shook Nagisa gently. "Nagisa? Nagisa, are you okay?" Nagisa snapped out of his dark thoughts and looked up to see Karma. He almost looked worried about Nagisa. That can't be, no one was ever worried about me and no one will ever be. "Nagisa?! Hey, what happened? Talk to me, please..." "Huh?" Nagisa exclaimed confusedly. He reached up to his face and felt his wet tears. "I was... crying?" "Yes, please tell me why!" Karma was genuinely worried about Nagisa, he thought it was him who made Nagisa cry. Little did he know his words were only a trigger to Nagisa's dark thoughts. Thoughts Nagisa wouldn't admit he was having, he made sure of it. After a few seconds, Nagisa came up with an answer that he hoped would satisfy Karma for a while. "I got a panic attack when I thought about the tests coming up. I'm not prepared for them." Karma looked a little confused, but he took the answer anyway. It wasn't the real reason, but it could have been the truth. "Well, if you're that worried I could help you study." Now it was Nagisa's turn to be confused. "You can do that? Because it seems to me that you don't do it yourself." "Haha, why would you think that?" "Well, you know, there are wanted posters for you all over the city because you, ehm-" Nagisa didn't feel it was his place to say it aloud, but Karma already ended his sentence for him. "I beat people up? Yeah, that's true. But I do study, occasionally." "Do you go to school? You have a school bag, but it seems you   don't go into a school because you spend your whole day 'beating people up'." Karma really didn't go to school, so he answered honestly. "I am supposed to go to school, but I choose not to 'cause I already know what they're teaching. I only go when there are tests. That's also the only time I study a little. So, what do you say?" "Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to ask my mother first. She's pretty, um, strict, I'm not sure she'll say yes. I will try. Can you tell me when exactly you'll give me my phone back though?" The redhead thought a little before he gave an answer. "I suppose a week after I took it. So next monday." Nagisa's eyes widened. "A whole week?! But why?" "It's punishment. Or did you already forget what you did? Almost reporting my location is a serious crime in my book." Karma said with little laugh. "It's actually the complete opposite in the real world's book." Nagisa mumbled. Karma made eye contact and said almost menacingly: "What was that?" "N-Nothing!" Why does my voice keep doing that when I'm with him? Ugh, I wish I wouldn't stutter! Nagisa started fidgeting again. So his name is cute, the way he acts is cute, his hair is cute. What else is cute about him? Karma took his arms of the wall and stopped pinning the blue-haired boy down. Nagisa finally had some breathing room and suddenly realized that he was taking very long to get home. "I have to go! I'll give you an answer tomorrow! Bye!" He yelled while running off, leaving Karma alone in the street. "Aww, I wanted to walk him home."

Thanks for reading! I would love it if you correct me on my typos! I have been raised bilingual, but I don't have much English writing experience because I don't live in an English speaking country.

This is my first story (or book, pls tell me which one) so also tips about my writing style are very welcome! Just remember to follow the guidelines and stay nice.

Wow, I just have to say that this chapter is much longer than the last one. What do you guys prefer? Longer or shorter chapters? Longer ones will take longer to write (I think I spent like 6 hours on this and I didn't even proofread, hehe). I would love to hear your opinions on this matter! Don't forget to vote, it helps me to see how many people enjoy my writing.

See you in the next chapter (which will come sometime next week)!

Yours sincerely,
