How I see Angel
The screech of tires echoed around me as the cab pulled to a stop outside of the familiar powder blue town house that belonged to my dead Aunt Tallia. The sometimes bitter but usually sweet old crone had passed away last month from congestive heart failure, leaving all of her worldly possessions to me, the black sheep of the family.
She had been shunned long before me and was often subject to the harsh ridicule of our pristine blue blood family who had decided many years ago that neither of us were worthy of their name or their fortunes. My aunt, being the kind hearted woman she was, took it upon her self to be my only defense when the family decided to turn on me during my father murder trial. I can't really blame them, seeing as how I was the one being accused of his murder.
In the end none of it mattered because at the age of nine, I was convicted of murder in the first degree. Yeah, because at the age of nine I somehow plotted the murder of my father, the man who had single-handedly raised and cared for me when my mother died giving me life. If you ask me, there was some crooked goings on in that court room.
Unfortunately for me, no one had asked me. I was deemed unstable and mentally unfit to stand trial by the state psychiatrist and instead of being sent to a juvenile facility like most child criminals, I was sent to a state certified mental hospital for the criminally insane. Awesome right? Yeah, not so much.
Anyhow, Aunt Tallia had been the only one who had defended me while the other members of my family just sat back and did nothing except try to keep the court proceeding quiet. Can't have little ole me as a smudge on their otherwise pristine lives now can we? Bastards.
Now, at the age of twenty, I had been deemed fit to reenter society, much to my families dismay. One thing I found hilarious is though my Aunt had been shunned, she had also been one of the more wealthy members of our family. A fact that had angered out relatives when the will was read and none of them had received a penny.
Once again, a good chunk of the family fortune was in the hands of a family member that they refused to acknowledge, not that I cared about that last part. I want nothing to do with them or the people they associate with. I'd rather choke on a piece of cactus then have to deal with their fake concern and hidden agendas.
I'm not going to lie, my past hurts. To this day I still can't stand to have another living being touch me and it's all that bastard's fault. But rather than live the remainder of my life like a recluse on crack, I made the decision to try to live somewhat normally.
Which why I am where I am now. After being released, I went straight to the lawyers office that handled my Aunt's affairs and got the information I needed to claim my inheritance. I had thought that perhaps I'd have a little money to get me started in my new life but NOPE, the old woman just had to leave me a freaking fortune. You'd think I'd be excited but I'm really not. I wanted a normal life and if I have anything to say about it, I'm going to get one.
A horn blared, pulling me from my mind and I looked up into the eyes of the balding cabby who was glaring at me through the divider and pointing to the meter in the front.
"Sixty-five thirty four boy, and don't you think this place is a bit fancy for you?" He asked in his scratchy smokers voice, eyeing me like some piece of trash.
I glared and pulled out my new wallet, retrieving the money for him. I slid it through the divider and mumbled out "Keep the change." before climbing out of the stereotypical yellow car and walked around to the trunk.
It popped open a second later and I quickly grabbed my only bag and slammed the trunk shut.
The cabby peeled out of the drive way, the tired kicking a bit of mud up onto my jeans and I scowled at the offending dirt. After a day of dealing with my Aunt's legal team, filing the proper paperwork for ownership of her estate, and shopping for three outfits and some interview attire, I'd had enough. Middle aged assholes with a stick shoved up where the sun don't shine is the last thing I needed right now.
