Choon-Hee quickly slipped on her shoes and put the hood of her jacket up before stepping out into the rain. She slowly walked to the main office of the Mountain Lake Resort. Although it was a downpour, she still took her time enjoying the water from the heavens and jumping in every puddle she came across. During the past couple of days, she'd started the process of healing.
This time last week, she was getting ready to marry a man whom she thought she'd be spending the rest of her life with, but that all changed the night before their big day. Choon-Hee couldn't sleep, her body was a mixture of nerves and excitement. It was a little after 1am when she decided she'd had enough pacing in her room and decided to go to the hotel bar. She wanted something to calm herself down. Just one drink would be enough to relax her body so that she would be able to get some sleep.
The feeling of her heartbreak was a feeling she didn't know if she'd ever get over. The sight of her fiancé sitting in the back of the bar making-out with one of her bridesmaids was something that would forever be burned in her brain. She watched from afar, and when they left, instead of confronting them, she hid down a nearby hallway, unable to think of anything better to do. The dinner she'd shared with them a few hours before threatened to show itself again when she heard him sweetly talk to the other woman about how much he'd missed her as he kissed her neck while they waited for the elevator.
Once morning came, the only thing left in her room was a note explaining she wasn't going through with the wedding after what she'd seen. By the time it was found she would be on her way to what was supposed to be her honeymoon alone. Her now ex-fiancé let her pick the location, she hadn't told him or anyone else that she'd chosen a place from one of her favorite movies because she wanted it to be a surprise. And now that she was here, she was glad she'd come by herself.
When Choon-Hee finally made it to the office she was drenched from the heavy downpour. Her body shook from the chill of the cold air inside mixing with the wetness. She removed her hood, not caring that she looked like shit. She wasn't here to impress anyone, she left her cabin for one thing and one thing only. The front desk called the phone in the cabin last night to inform her that her lost luggage had finally made its way to her.
"I'm sorry, sir. But like I said, we have no cabins or rooms available."
Choon-Hee's eyes found their way to the woman working behind the counter a few feet away. The poor woman looked stressed and judging by the tensed muscles in his back, the man in front of her was just as stressed out.
"I understand that, ma'am. But you said that some of those spaces are empty due to people not arriving because of the storms and flooding. All I'm asking is for you to allow me to stay until either the rain stops or the water goes down. Once one of those happens, I'll either return to the campsite or I'll leave."
That voice. Choon-Hee knew the man's voice. Her face scrunched up while she watched his shoulders rise and fall as he tried to calm himself.
"I'm sorry, sir."
"Where the hell am I supposed to sleep then? The rangers made me leave my car when they brought me down the mountain."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Kim."
Choon-Hee's eyes widened when she realized who the man was. Before she could change her mind she walked up to the counter and stood next to him. "He can stay in my cabin." She kept her focus on the woman. "It's already booked for two people."
"I appreciate you offering him a place, but I don't think it would be safe for you to share a cabin with a stranger."
"He's not a stranger," Choon-Hee finally turned to look at the man who was already facing her with a confused yet glad smile on his face. "He's Kim Namjoon, brother of the man I was supposed to marry."
