Harry pulled the curtains tight around his bed. He didn't bother to change. Harry pulled his legs to his chest and closed his eyes. What had Snape seen? Harry hated occulmency. Snape always wormed his way past Harry's defenses. At this rate, what was the use of these lessons?
Harry sighed and pulled the covers up over him, trying to think back on tonight's lesson. Snape had smirked at him as Harry sat on the cold stone floor. Harry couldn't remember what he'd been trying to hide.Snape cleared his throat as Harry looked up at him from the stone floor.
"Well, Potter." Snape said with a smirk, "Time for you to run along back to your dormitory." Snape turned to the pensive, stirring it, as Harry collected his things.
"By the way, Potter. Maybe when you have History of Magic you should focus on your O.W.L studies instead of on Longbottom." Snape chuckled to himself. Harry looked at the back of his head. He wished he could curse the man.
"That-That's private!" Harry glared at Snape.
"Sure, Potter. Run along before Filch sniffs you out."Harry's eyes flew open. Was that what Snape was talking about? He pushed the covers off himself and sat up. Cold sweat drenched his back. What if Snape tells someone. What if Snape tells the Slytherins. Harry could see Malfoy's face now.
"Potter AND Longbottom?!" The image of Malfoy's face in Harry's thoughts guffawed. Harry would simply have to stop going. Harry would much rather Lord Voldemort have access to his thoughts than Snape.
When Harry finally fell asleep his dreams were clouded by a laughing Malfoy and a disgruntled Neville.
"Harry!" Ron had ripped the curtains apart, flooding Harry with bright morning light. Harry sat up, rubbing his face wearily. "We're going to be late if you don't hurry up."
Harry nodded. His stomach felt sick. What if everyone already knew? Harry dressed quickly and hurried to meet Ron and Hermione in the common room. Hermione was looking over Neville's potions essay. Harry avoided Neville's glance.
Ron and Hermione bickered the whole way to the dining hall. They'd been determined to figure out what Hagrid's big surprise was. Harry couldn't concentrate on that. The commotion in the dining hall seemed to be at a normal level. No one was jeering or talking about, atleast that he heard.
No one knows, A voice in Harry's brain reminded him.
Still, Harry thought to himself, Best to not give them a reason to talk.Neville walked with Ginny down to the great hall. She was discussing with him a situation Luna had gotten caught up in.
"Neville?" Ginny asked, stopping him in the corridor.
"Yeah? Are we going to miss breakfast?" Neville asked, he turned toward her. Neville chewed his lip nervously.
"Why don't you talk to him, Neville?" Ginny suggested, walking backwards so she could look at him.
"He didn't talk to me this morning, Ginny. Maybe he's changed his mind." Neville picked at a lose thread on his bag as they waited for the stairs to change.
"It's Harry." The girl laughed. "He hid most of winter break because he was scared he'd turn into a snake. He's going through a lot." Neville nodded.
"It's nothing against you, Neville. I've seen the way he looks at you. Sometimes I wished he look at me that way. Not as a dorky little sister." Ginny sighed. Neville wasn't sure what to say.
"Maybe that would be best," Neville sighed. No one would look at Harry the same if he was seen holding hands with Neville as he would be holding hands with Ginny. Ginny was beautiful. You could even say she was radiant. She was like wild flowers, bright but feisty. What was he? All Neville could think of was the way people would bully him for being clumsy. Sure he was smart with plants but he could barely hold his wand sometimes. He sighed as he and Ginny entered the dining hall.—————-
