Noelle Barclay and Carter Sharp's families had been feuding for years because they both own massive companies who both sell designer accessories. The Barclay family established their business, named Barclay's respectively, in 1980 while the Sharp family business, named Sharp & Carpenter, or S & C, (also named after the Carpenters, another wealthy family) was established in 1990.
Although S & C came late, they topped the country by storm, surpassing Barclay's in income and customers. This made both families want to complete, with any one of the families coming on top every time. This made all the family members of each family resent the other, including their future offspring's, including Noelle Barclay, Carter Sharp and Charlotte Carpenter. (the heiress of the Carpenter business)
When Carter and Charlotte were younger, their families always fantasised about the two getting married and in fact Charlotte did love Carter, but this was unrequited. The families soon realised they were always going to be allies, and the Sharps should actually propose marriage between an heiress of another company whom is very famous to make an alliance and help future business plans.
The only two members of the Barclay and Sharp families who didn't completely despise each other, Stacy Sharp and Opal Barclay, proposed a dating or marriage alliance idea to their respective families, claiming that their heirs don't actually have to love eachother, they should just do it for their families and for the alliance. It took very long for the families to give in to this plan, and so it was; Carter and Noelle were going to be engaged.
Only Charlotte wasn't happy about this, but she didn't go complain, she just kept it to herself so she wouldn't ruin her family business and reputation and to keep her friendship with Carter intact, as she planned something.
When Carter and Noelle heard this, they were confused and disappointed. "Why do I have to marry a filthy girl like her? I would rather marry Charlotte Carpenter! But I suppose, if it helps the family." Carter said, while Noelle cried, "I thought you guys hated them! I hate them too, so why are we doing this? I don't want to, but if it helps our family.."
