Kie Kamado, formerly known as Isabelle, hated to admit that it had taken her five years to come to terms with her reincarnation. She often wished to blame her tardiness on being reborn, but deep down she knew it was her own doing.
One fateful day, Isabelle was visited by the infamous Truck-sama, an event she still resented to this day. Kie would also like to direct some of the blame on the fact that she wasn't even a Kamado yet, although she already had a few plans in mind.
Kie had some guesses about her new life, but she didn't feel like exhausting herself with her newborn body that couldn't even sit up yet. However, when a demon slaughtered her parents and six-month-old brother in front of her at the age of five, her hypothesis became a harsh reality. She was in Demon Slayer now.
But what mattered most to our five-year-old protagonist was the fact that she was being gently cradled by one of the current Hashiras. From the looks of it, this man was a younger version of Urokodaki, the teacher of her future son and daughter, and the former Water Pillar.
Kie quietly clicked her tongue, feeling as though this was a cliche Wattpad story written by a 15-year-old girl. It wasn't much of a plot twist with those terms.
Kie was lost in thought when the cold snowflakes hit her face, pulling her back to reality. Her father had warned her about the upcoming bad weather, and she suddenly felt unsure and tired. She knew it was going to be a blizzard.
Giving up on thinking, Kie snuggled into the older man's shoulder, seeking comfort as they traveled. She sensed it would take a while to reach their destination.
Unfortunately, the blizzard worsened, and they ended up stranded in an abandoned cabin. Kie developed a terrible fever and was unconscious for two days.
When she finally opened her eyes, it was dark, and the only light came from the moon and a few scattered candles. She found herself in a hospital-like room filled with Kakushi tending to patients.
Kie realized that she was in the Demon Corps hospital. Despite her condition, she couldn't help but find the situation interesting. She also acknowledged that Urokodaki made for a decent pillow.
Kie sat in silence, her hands resting motionless in her lap. Suddenly, a Kakushi approached her bed, explaining her situation with the utmost gentleness. Though the tone of the Kakushi's voice was soothing, it only served to remind Kie of her fate - a painful death that she could not avoid. The thought was haunting, and Kie shuddered at the mere prospect of it. She knew that she could not change her fate, but the knowledge of how she would die was almost too much to bear.
Lost in thought, Kie barely registered the small pat on the head from the Kakushi. She was left alone with her own thoughts, which were not on the deaths of her family, but rather on the fate of her future children.
The following days were a blur of pity-filled gazes, staring out the window, and planning for the future. Kie's gash was healing nicely, and she was grateful for the attentive care of the staff.
Later that day, as the sun was setting, Kie received an unexpected visitor - the current head of the Demon Slayer Corps. She was stunned by his presence. Even with the disease ravaging his body, he was still strikingly handsome, with a grace that was unmatched. Kie couldn't help but notice the resemblance between him and Kagaya Ubayashiki.
Kie couldn't help but feel intimidated by the head of the establishment, Takashi Ubayashiki. He carried himself with an air of confidence that Kie could only dream of possessing. She watched as he introduced himself, explaining that he was the head of the establishment and offering her a position as a medical assistant. Kie was stunned by the opportunity that had just presented itself to her, and she quickly agreed to the offer.
Despite her fears about her painful future, Kie was determined to make the most of her time at the establishment. She knew that she had a role to play in this world, and she was determined to fulfill it. Though the thought of her inevitable death twisted her stomach into knots, Kie tried to push it to the back of her mind and focus on the present.
For now, she had a lot of time on her hands before her eventual doom. And so, Kie resolved to make the most of every moment, living in the present and making the most of the opportunities that came her way.
Kie resolved to acquire as much knowledge as possible, in order to later impart it to Tanjiro and Nezuko. The present moment was of the utmost importance. This knowledge could help defeat Muzan, and perhaps even spare the lives of those who did not deserve to die.
As she was lost in thought, Takashi interjected, "If you would like to remain here, I must ask that you follow me. We must get you situated."
Kie could not help but hurry after the young boy. Along the way, she attempted to commit to memory all the twists and turns of the path they took, which seemed reminiscent of the Butterfly Estate she had encountered in the manga. What little she could discern, that is.
Though they encountered several kakushi, who stopped what they were doing to bow, the duo's journey was otherwise uneventful.
Soon enough, they arrived at their destination. Takashi halted before a door and spoke serenely, "This shall be your new quarters. Should you have any concerns or queries, do not hesitate to ask."
He offered her a gentle smile before departing, moving with all the grace of the universe.
"Th-thank you." Her voice cracked, and Kie felt a flush of embarrassment.
Fortunately, Takashi did not remark upon it, but merely nodded in her direction before departing. Feeling somewhat overwhelmed, Kie decided to take a moment to rest and recuperate.
Kie entered her new room and was pleased to see that it was a decent size with basic furniture. It had a futon, a small table, and a pillow to sit on. There was also a small closet with some working clothes that looked a bit too big for her.
After taking a moment to take in her surroundings, Kie climbed into the futon and passed out, relieved to finally be where she needed to be.
The sun had set, and the sky was awash with a deep shade of blue. The stars twinkled in the distance, and the moon cast a pale light upon the world below. It was a peaceful night, with only the sound of crickets in the air. The world seemed to be at rest, and all was right with the world. Or at least for our heroine who had quite the life ahead of her. But that would wait for the next day.
