The Invitation

A/N: I decided to write a whole new book. Although, I'm not used to writing a book about werewolves, I enjoy reading about them so I decided to give it a shot. This is book one of the Blue Cove Series, which is in Akari's perspective. Book Two will also be written by me, but it will be in Kaeyah's POV. After I finish book one, I will start writing book two.

It was a normal Saturday afternoon, in Paris, sunny with a chance of rain later. Kaeyah and I were sitting on the sofa, each reading a book. Although we had similar tastes in books, our favorites were different. Kaeyah's was The Inheritance Games, while mine was A Court of Thorns and Roses. I guess something interesting had happened in her book which caused her to squeal and made me jump. Kaeyah preferred to read her books on her iPhone or iPad, while I preferred to read physical books. With a physical copy in front of me, I felt like I grasped what I was reading better than getting distracted by incoming notifications from a screen. I looked at her, shooting invisible daggers towards her for interrupting my reading. She remained completely oblivious. I sighed, picking up my cup of hot chocolate and took a sip, realizing it had gone cold. I figured since mine had gone cold that meant that Kaeyah's had gone cold as well.

Although, Kaeyah and I lived together, her hometown was back in Australia, while mine was in the United States. We had both agreed to meet in the middle and move to France. She didn't speak any French, so we both had to solely rely upon the little bit of French I had learned while I was still in high school. I struggled to remember some of the words I had learned, but I was getting used to having the waiter understand what we had wanted. Everything was on the menu, but I hadn't used French since I learning it and it took at least 3 years of convincing Kaeyah to save enough money so we could live together. I leaned my head back, resting it on the arm of the sofa, closing my book in the process. I knew what page I was on by the last paragraph I was on. I had read this book at least five times, since I had gotten it.

I picked up my phone and looked at the date. It was May 2nd. Twenty-three days until the third worst day of my life. February 9th and February 14th being the first two. I had lost the two most important people in my life on the 9th and the 25th, and I wasn't ready to deal with the rollercoaster of emotions and panic attacks heading my way. I locked my phone and looked at Kaeyah. She was still invested in her book, so I decided to go grab the mail, knowing that even if there were a fire in our apartment, she wouldn't be phased. I opened the door and walked downstairs to our mailbox. The door to the office opened, and Ophelia walked out giving me a smile.

"How are you Akari? You know, out of all the tenants in the building, you and Kaeyah are the only ones who I haven't gotten a single complaint about yet. What do you girls do all day?" I returned her smile and took in her features along with her French accent. She was an older woman, about mid-thirties. She wore black dress pants with a white blouse and black heels. Her chestnut brown hair was up in a bun, with a few small strands hanging down around her face, probably from stress. I unlocked the mailbox with the key, while responding to her question.

"Well, Kaeyah is asleep throughout most of the day, while I'm working as a software engineer. After 5 PM, we read until 9PM, and then we play video games until midnight, to which I go to bed and Kaeyah stays up. It's a repeat process every day, with a few exceptions. Sometimes after I'm finished with work, we go to Café de Flore to grab something to eat or we go to the cinema to watch a movie. I find it funny though, that Kaeyah can't speak French and I barely can, so we just absorb the film and interpret what they say. Sometimes, we come up with our own script. Then we come back home and read until I need to sleep for work the following morning."

I pulled the mail out from our mailbox, shutting it and locking it, turning my attention back to Ophelia. She continued to smile as she was locking the office door. "It sounds like fun. I'm not much of a reader myself, but if I find a book that sparks my interest at the book shop, I will definitely buy it and read it. Although, Amélie and Pierre take up most of my attention during the day after I leave here. Speaking of which, I'm late picking them up. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day Akari." I replied with a small 'Thank you', as I walked back towards the stairs to the apartment.
