A/N: So I'm thinking about posting a chapter 3 times a week, so I have time to gather thoughts about what I want to have in the next chapter. Chapters may be slow soon though, since I'm majorly suffering from writer's block. Anyway, I hope you enjoy chapter 2. :D Also the lake house (pack house) is pictured above.
I woke up to the sounds of my alarm going off and Kaeyah banging on my door. I picked my phone up from the nightstand that sat by my bed, shutting off the alarm. I was not ready to get up this early in the morning, but I knew that if I went back to sleep, Kaeyah would pour a glass of ice-cold water on my face. She had done it to me before when I didn't want to wake up for the company barbeque Zoni said everyone absolutely had to attend. Groaning, I stretched out my limbs, releasing a sigh with a few joints cracking, and got up out of bed. I walked to the closet, pulling out an orange tank crop top and a boho skirt with some strappy sandals. I walked to the bathroom and did my morning routine, which consisted of taking a shower using my favorite lavender and coconut shampoo and conditioner. After I got dressed, I blow dried my hair and gave myself some light curls in the short hair I had. Although, my hair was already wavy, it looked better with more texture and wasn't as frizzy, unless the humidity was sky high.
I did some light makeup with winged eyeliner and considered myself ready to tackle the day. I walked out of the bathroom, pulling my already-packed suitcase behind me to the living room while I waited on Kaeyah. She walked out of her room, dragging her suitcase behind her and smiled when she saw me.
"Kar, you look so pretty. I haven't seen you whip out that outfit since... well you know, him." I knew who she was talking about, and smiled slightly, putting my head down.
"I still miss him, Kae. It's been three years since he left." She wrapped her arm around me and squeezed me into a bear hug.
"I know, Kar, but just think, he would want you to have fun, so let's not get sad. Besides, we have to leave. We have to be there by nine and it's already seven-thirty."
I nodded, putting on a face of determination and grabbed my suitcase, following Kaeyah out the door. I would have fun this Summer. I turned around and took in the surroundings of the apartment. This would be the last time I would see my home for the next two months. Summer had started today, and it was time to go into vacation mode. We locked the door and took the elevator to the parking garage. I didn't have my license yet, so Kaeyah was in charge of driving, despite the fact that she continuously told me to get a license.
We drove for about thirty minutes before we stopped at a small convenience store to grab snacks and water. I opted for a cinnamon roll, a small cup of coffee and a bottle of water. Kaeyah grabbed a cup of hot chocolate, a bottle of water and bagel with cinnamon cream cheese. I think she was just as addicted to hot chocolate as I was to coffee. Usually, I would add sugar and vanilla creamer, but it was 8AM already and I needed the pure bitter taste of the coffee. I looked over to Kaeyah who was in a pair of blue jean shorts, with a black shirt tucked in and some Converse high tops.
After we paid, we got back on the road. I was staring out my window, taking in the scenery. The trees were absolutely stunning, and I rolled down my windows, taking in a deep inhale. I had always loved the woodsy smell especially after it rained, since I was a child, but I never knew why. We weren't expected to get rain until next week, but I knew it wouldn't matter. I would still enjoy being in the woods regardless.
"Kar, look." Kaeyah's voice pulled me out of my thoughts, and I looked to where she was pointing. There, next to the treeline, was a wooden sign with the words, Now Entering Blue Cove Lake. Well at least we had confirmation that the place actually did exist, but it still didn't explain why there weren't any search results on Google. That meant that we were close and I could finally go to my room and go back to sleep. Though, I knew Kaeyah would drag me to the lake to go swimming.
I turned my attention back to the woods and saw something I never expected to see. It was a wolf with black fur and green eyes. Wolves weren't uncommon, but what happened after was definitely something I never knew could actually happen in real life. The wolf had turned into a human. A man with black hair and green eyes. I looked to Kaeyah and she had the same reaction on her face.
"You saw that too right, Kar? I'm not going crazy?" I nodded and rolled my window back up.
"You're definitely already crazy, but I did see a wolf turn into a human. Where the fuck are we?" It was too late to turn back considering we had already made the reservations. I had a weird feeling about this place. Something already seemed off and was sketching me out.
We pulled up to a driveway that had iron gates in the front with a sign that said Blue Cove Lakehouse. There was a little booth next to the gate with a man inside. He walked out and stood next to the car while Kaeyah rolled her window down.
"State your name and business." I took in his appearance. He had blonde hair, with brown eyes. He was built and stood about 6'4.
"We made reservations for the summer. We both received invitations to spend the summer here, but we don't know who sent them." I looked over at Kaeyah, then back to the man. He went back to the booth and put his hand to his ear that held an earpiece. The gate buzzed and slowly began to open, as he looked over to us and nodded.
"Enjoy your stay, ladies." Everything was super odd about this place, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
"He's kind of cute, don't you think?" Kaeyah speaking to me pulled me out of my thoughts once again.
"I guess."
I wasn't really interested in speaking to anyone or even remotely interested in getting into a relationship again. Not after... him.
We pulled up to the most beautiful house I had ever laid my eyes upon. It was bigger than both my apartment building and the house I used to live in when I was living with my parents back in the United States. Hell, it was even bigger than the mansion that was in my hometown. A man wearing a butler's uniform was waiting in the driveway for us, as well as a few women who sported black dresses. Kaeyah parked the car over to the side as to not block the driveway for anyone else who would be coming as well. We hopped out of the car, grabbing our suitcases from the trunk and walked over to the man.
"Hello, my name is Hobbs. I am the butler of Blue Cove Lakehouse. This is Celine," he said as he pointed to a woman with red hair, "and this is Haley." He pointed to the other woman who had brown hair.
"Hello, my name is Kaeyah, and this is Akari." He tilted his head down and bowed, as did the ladies.
"Very nice to meet you, ladies. Celine will accompany Akari, and Haley will accompany Kaeyah. If you will follow me. Celine, Haley, take the ladies things to their rooms."
They both walked to us and grabbed our suitcases, then turned and walked into the house. "Ladies, if you will." He began walking towards the front door, us following en suite. We walked into the house and began taking in our surroundings. There was a double spiral staircase leading up to the second floor. On the left was the living room, and on the right was the dining room.
"We have a few rules that you must follow, or we will ask you to leave. The first being that the curfew is at 11PM. The second is that dinner will be served at 7PM and you are asked to attend every dinner, during the duration of your stay, if you wish. Finally, under no circumstances are you allowed to enter the Master's office or room, unless given permission by Master himself."
We both nodded, and followed him into the dining room that led to the kitchen. "You are allowed to eat whatever you want and if we do not have something that you feel as though you need, we will send one of our staff members into the city to get it. You are here as a guest and we will do everything you ask of us, within certain boundaries." Once again, we nodded and followed him back to the foyer and up to the second floor.
"Both of the rooms that have double doors, belong to the Master of the house. Do not enter them, as I have stated before. The rest of the house is free to roam. There is a room with double doors in between both of the staircases that lead to the library on the first floor. I heard you both like to read, so you may go in there as well, but we ask that you do not leave it a mess for us to clean up. No food or drink is allowed to enter the library as well. Some of the books in there are older than I."
"Hobbs, are you boring the ladies?"
Hobbs bowed and took two steps back. We looked up the man that the voice came from, and shock came across our faces. There, in front of us, was the man, wolf, thing that we saw in the forest.
