It has been several hours since I arrived here and I miss Miles, I miss his flirting and his arms scooping me up at any given moment. I miss the sweet talk and his pet names, even though I think it's cheesy. I want to go home to him. Ivie sees my tears in the darkness of our cell. "The first night is always the worst," she says sympathetically while avoiding eye contact.
"I miss him" I choke.
"Who's him?" she sounds giddy like she's about to start gossiping
"My boyfriend." I giggle and wipe my tears.
"Ooo tell me about him." she rolls onto her stomach and faces me.
"Well, he's tall, and handsome, and has the most heart-melting smile on earth." I find myself gushing. "Oh and for a while there he just called me Delly as he used to when we were kids and recently he has been bouncing between that and calling me; Angel." I smile at the thought and look at Ivie.
"Stop, that's so cute." she ponders for a minute and perks up. "You've known each other since y'all were kids?" she asks.
"Yeah, we hung out a lot when we were younger Amelia and Miles are twins, well were twins." I train off.
"What do you mean were?" she asks, then she puts the pieces together. "Oh, Amelia is Mel." her face lights up again. "You are dating your dead best friend's twin brother!" she seems shocked.
"Yes, we caught up at her funeral when he rescued me from the paparazzi. Then we went on a walk in the woods and he kissed me on a rock, that's when he asked me to be his girlfriend. I played hard to get through, and I didn't say yes till the next day when he took me out to eat at the cafe we used to hang out at when his sister was still alive and Marcus was there to rough house with him." I feel a tear drift down my cheek.
"How could you leave him waiting, you are stronger than I am." she quips.
"And get this, his mom kicked him out after finding out we were together and then he moved into my guest room" I blurt and wait for her reaction.
"Did you guys...do it?" she's invested I love it.
"No not until a few months later when my parents were on a work trip, he dragged me home after a bonfire. I was wasted and I came into his room after sobering up a little and came onto him." I laughed and so did Ivie.
"So how was it?" she asked.
"It was my first time and I won't go into deep detail but holy shit it was amazing." I throw myself back on the bed and sigh at the memory.
"Was he..." she trails.
"Oh yeah." I get red and we both start giggling again but are interrupted by the sound of screaming down the hall.
"Shut the fuck up you lying bitch! Go rot in hell!" A voice screams.
"I didn't take it, Roxanne!" A terrified girl yells. The guards run down the hall, but before they can resolve the conflict, I hear a thud and some painful moans, this is in response to the sound of bones cracking and fists hitting flesh. I shake.
"Again" Ivie groans and rolls her eyes.
"What the hell is happening?" I ask.
"Roxanne blames Liv for stealing her shit and Liv never has stolen a thing in her life, Roxanne is just stupid and always hides it in places she can't remember." Ivie sounds annoyed.
"What's Liv in for?" I ask.
"I think it was the murder of an infant." She responds "She got pregnant at 15 and gave birth at 16 in the school bathroom, she was months too early and the baby was born barely alive, so she wrapped her up in paper towels and put her in the bin. She was found by the janitor." She looks down at her Crocs.
"That's so sad," I say in disbelief.
"Yeah, she was just a kid, we all are." She takes off her shoes and crawls into bed. It only takes a few minutes before Ivie is fast asleep. On the other hand, it takes me 2 hours to sleep without Miles. All I can hear all night is screaming and crying, the choir of disturbing voices is accompanied by the rattling of chains and pounding on the walls. I miss my family and I want to go home, but for now, I have to try to sleep. In the morning our rooms were checked and we were escorted to the cafeteria. When we were all seated the gossip began. "So Dellah here has a boy toy." Ivie grins.
"Ooo... what's his name?" Buffy asks.
"Miles." I blush.
"Oh, I bet he's cute." Millie teases.
"I've never met an ugly Miles ." Noa chimes in.
"He is very handsome, in my opinion, and super sweet." I look down at my food.
"Is he going to be waiting when you get back?" Buffy probes.
"He'd better be, he lives with her," Ivie answers.
"How did you convince your parents to do that?" Noa gapes
"His mom kicked him out, so we took him in..." I miss Miles but I'm sick of gushing over him so I change the subject.
"How do I get visitors?" I ask
"They have to come to you," Buffy answers.
"But you can call family and ask them to visit you, you just have to put in a call request," Ivie adds
"How do I do that?" I feel clueless, but I want to see my family so I still ask.
"Well, during rec time go to the desk and ask the receptionist lady," Millie answers and toys with her food.
"Thanks". They all nod and I go back to my breakfast. When rec time rolls around I go up to the front desk. When I get there the lady gives me a customer service level smile.
"What do you need?" She asks.
"Can I put in a phone request please?" I smile.
"You know what, the phones are free if you want to go right now?" Her fingers dance on her keyboard.
"Thank you." I go over and pray that I can leave a voicemail, everyone is probably at work and school. I type in Miles's number and listen. It rings 5 times and just when I'm about to hang up I hear some faint voices and the clanging of silverware.
"Hello?" His voice is frantic. "Is that you angel?" I smile and can feel a tear trail down my cheek.
"Hi, Miles." I choke.
"Are you ok?" He asks nervously. "Did someone hurt you?" He breathes heavily. "I'll kill them." He growls.
"No Miles, I am fine, I don't need you locked in here too." I try to console him.
"Ok, do you need me to come visit, I miss you." I can hear the tears in his voice.
"Yes, please," I beg even though he doesn't need convinced.
"I'm on my way right now gorgeous, don't worry." He rushes.
"No. Come after school let's out." I try my best to sound like I'm emotionally stable but inside I'm a mess.
"Ok, after school. I love you." he says
"I love you more." with that I hang up.
