Chapter 4

A large snake slithered down the hallway of a dark location. The tile smooth against the creature's belly allowed it to move with a sinister silence as it eyed a door down the hall. The eyes were narrow slits, yet that did little to affect the beast's ability to see the room or sense the magic in its surroundings. In the distance a man was seen with a partially lit wand. It was clear to the stalking predator that the wizard sensed a presence, but the confidence the great snake held was overwhelming. No normal magic could harm the pet of the great speaker. By the time the man had spotted the snake he would be lunch.

As the beast slithered upon the man it was clear that he had been spotted. A spell was cast at the snake before it could determine a safe distance to strike, but once the spell washed over it, the creature felt anger surge through its body. Lashing out, opening its mouth, and scraping his teeth across the human flesh a feeling of satisfaction came over the predator. Making the man suffer for daring to attack was an immense satisfaction. Wanting the man to suffer, the snake lunged again and bit the man taking glee from excruciating screams. The snake let out a bellyful laugh that did not sound at all like a reptile of any kind, but an evil human being that has haunted the nightmares of many.

A young man with emerald green eyes and a scar on his forehead bolted out of bed in fright. He knew the man that was being attacked in his dreams. It was the father of his best mate. He was dripping in sweat, and felt dirty, as if he had just committed a terrible crime. It was clear that his dream had awoken some of the others, and for some reason he could not shake the feeling that what he saw was more than just a dream so he took a chance, "Ron, get McGonagall, we have to get to the headmaster, now!"

Neville who was getting closer to the bed was now clearly alarmed, "Harry, what's happened?"

Harry and Ron made eye contact, and the red head never did respond to Harry as he darted out of the common in search of their head of house. Harry attempted to stand, but he collapsed into Neville's waiting arms, "Easy there Harry, I got you! I will help you get to Ron and McGonagall just hold on!"

Harry wasn't positive of where he was, the discombobulation from the dream had left him completely rattled. Even the Gryffindor common room did not resemble anything familiar in the young man's scrambled state of mind. He hardly even knew who he was at that moment. When McGonagall came through the portrait with Ron she looked highly alarmed, "Potter what is it?"

Harry shook his head, "Professor it has to do with the Order, we have to speak with Dumbledore!"

The head of Gryffindor House merely sighed, "Potter it is nearly 3 in the morning, whatever you have to speak with the headmaster about, can't it wait till morning?"

Shaking his head quickly, "No professor, I think it's Mr. Weasley, I think he has been attacked!"

The woman eyed one of her favorite pupils with great surprise and much worry while finally nodding, "Very well, Mr Longbottom can you please help Mr Weasley escort Potter to the headmasters office?"

Neville nodded his head as Ron with a bit more urgency swept under Harry's arm and helped practically carry their young leader down the grand staircase. When they made it to the headmaster's office Harry was finally regaining his strength as he could walk on his own two feet. Ron and Neville were in no mood however to slow down and let him gain his step.

It was only a matter of moments before Harry was facing the fully awake Headmaster of Hogwarts who had been avoiding him all semester, "Good evening gentlemen, I don't suppose you have come to me at this hour for a drink, so please have a seat. Mr. Longbottom thank you for being an astounding friend and carrying Mr Potter down here, but we can take it from here, goodnight!"
