Run. My heart is racing, and with every step I take my heart breaks more. Like a bird feather in the wind, I gently glide along, alone, to a new destination that I do not know. As I slow my pace, I reach highway 74. I take out my phone. 37 new texts. 24 missed calls.
Ethan: Baby I'm sorry please come back
Ethan: You know I never meant to hurt you in any way
Ethan: I love you.
When I read that I threw my phone across the street, watching it shatter into a million tiny pieces.
"Just like my heart." I thought to myself
"He never cared."
"He never gave a shit."
"I've fantasized about this day so many times, but yet I don't know what to do."
A million thoughts rushed through my head as I looked for the nearest pay phone. I approached the first gas station I saw. I looked around, nothing.
"Shit" I mumbled and ran to another one.
"Bingo" I thought. I took change out of my pocket and dialed numbers, with my head spinning and hands shaking.
"Hello?" I heard a familiar soothing voice say through the other end.
"J-J-Jesse?" I said, gasping for air.
"Crysta?! Is that you?!"
I hesitated
"Hello?!" I could hear it in her voice that she was panicked.
"C-Could you pick me up..Please.. I'm at some gas station on highway 74."
"Yeah, but what happened?!"
"I'll explain when you get here.. bye!" I hung up before she could say anything else. I slid down to my butt and put my bag on top of me. I leaned back on the phone, and looked through my bag. Some clothes, hair ties, leggings, shorts, a charger, a book, my stuffed animal, shoes, a blanket, pillow, money, and some pictures.
With my heart still racing I picked up my head and I put my hair into a messy bun, revealing my industrial. I took out the pictures and immediately threw them back in my bag. They were of Ethan and I. I slowly put my head back, resting on the pay phone as I awaited Jesse's arrival. It literally felt like hours before I heard a car. I propped up my head only to find nothing. I have no clue what time it is. I got up and started to walk around a little bit. The gas station was closed. I walked back to the pay phone and Jesse was there. She gave me a confused look as I ran to her, crying.
"Hey Crysta." she said as she flattened my hair and tried to calm me. I knew she wouldn't ask what had happened until much later.
"Hey." I managed to mumble in between sobs. She walked me to her car and opened the door for me.
"Do you have a place to stay at?"
I nodded no.
"You can stay with me until you get back on your feet."
I nodded ok and lipped "thank you." to her
"Do you wanna go to the store? I need to pick up a few things anyway."
I nodded yes.
"You have money?"
I nodded yes again.
She started up her car and we left. As we were half way down the road she turned on her radio, which was set up to her phone. She put on one of my favorite song, Drella-Pierce The Veil. As the song slipped out of the radio, Jesse turned to me.
"Are you okay C?" she asked, she looked worried.
I nodded no.
"Wel-" she started to explain as I cut her off
"I don't want to talk about this now J. Can you please start other conversation or just sit in silence until we get to your place!?" I snapped. I didn't mean to snap at her like that. She nodded and looked away as we sat in silence. Drella had ended and some other song had came on. I didn't really need to go to the store, I just wanted to get to Jesse's place as late as possible so I wouldn't have to explain.
As her car pulled up into a Wal-Mart I noticed that my cuts were still bleeding. It's 4am now, I wonder how long I was there for. J pulled into a parking space and hopped out of her car, then opened the door for me. I took my bag and followed her inside. She took a hand-held basked, and so did I. We walked together as my eyes scanned everything. Jesse stopped and picked up body wash, then looked at me. Her indication for, "This is for you." I half smiled and looked away, I didn't want her pity, and I didn't need it. All I needed was to stay at her place until I got a stable job.
"I'm gunna go back in the car." I said
"You don't need anything?" she replied
"Not at the moment..Well actually I need a toothbrush" I handed her $5 and headed off. I knew she was going to get me stuff anyways. Thats just how Jesse is.
As she got into the car, a parade of bags followed her.
"We're going to my place, it's just about fifteen minuets away." She said
I nodded. She started up her car as we drove into the early morning.
