Jaypaw padded along Windgrass Ridge, Starlingberry beside her. The two reached the clearing where the cats were supposed to meet. Two cats stood there, a young dappled brown she-cat and a cream-and-white she-cat. They were chatting good-humored, but looked up when the cats padded towards them.
"Hey! BreezeClan cats!" The cream she-cat meowed, flicking her tail in greeting. The other she-cat bristled.
"Why BreezeClan?" She groaned. "Those arrogant furballs are so dumb! They get angry over a freaking border patrol!" The she-cat's brown tail lashed angrily.Jaypaw pressed close to Starlingberry. "I don't think they like us very much," she whispered to the red-and-black med cat.
"Yeah, I think you're right. But I need to tend to the sick, so I'll see you later." Starlingberry replied, then trotted off in the direction of the BreezeClan camp. Two cats walked up from behind the brambles, then greeted the other cats politely. A silver tabby tom scrutinized Jaypaw and the MinnowClan she-cats. He snorted disdainfully, then sat down well away from the others. His tail waved the other cat, an albino she-cat, goodbye. The brambles rustled again a few seconds later, producing a pretty silvery-blue she-cat. The cat sat down, shaking out her fur, then giving herself a quick grooming so her fur was smooth and fluffy. The silver tom looked at her with disgust, before picking a splinter out of his pad.
"So uhh...Introductions?" the cream she-cat asked, sitting up. She put her paw to her chest. "I'm Friedlight!"
The silver tom looked at her. "Strange name," he growled, voice a bit higher than other toms.
"I used to be a loner named Fried." Friedlight explained, flicking her tail and not catching the venomous look the tom shot her. She poked the dappled brown she-cat. "This is my apprentice, Gorsepaw."
Gorsepaw growled, turning her back to the Clan cats.Jaypaw stepped up cautiously. "I'm Jaypaw," she meowed, blinking. "Nice to meet you."
The silver tabby tom finally grumbled, "And I'm Silverstorm." he shifted away from the other cats, lashing his plumed tail.
"Great! Now what are we supposed to do exactly?" Friedlight meowed, standing up.
"I think we should go to the mountains, like the prophecy says." Jaypaw suggested.
"Good plan. We should hunt first, though." Friedlight replied, shaking out her fur.bJaypaw looks at the she-cat. "Shouldn't we wait until we're out of Clan territory?" She asked, tilting her head. The blue she-cat finally realized what was happening. "Oh!" she mewed. "I'm Shimmeringlight!"
"Finally, the scatterbrain decides to pay attention." Silverstorm muttered under his breath."We're going hunting?" Shimmeringlight mewed, questioningly. Jaypaw looked at the silvery-blue she-cat. "We're gonna travel as much as we can today," she mewed. "We can hunt when it starts getting dark."
Silverstorm looked at the apprentice through slitted eyes. "Jaypaw's right." He meowed. "Our Clan's medicine cats gave us traveling herbs to help with the journey."
Gorsepaw grumbled, her tail tip starting to twitch in annoyance. "Why are we listening to a kit barely out of the nursery?!"
Friedlight glared at her apprentice, and then looked over at Silverstorm and Jaypaw. "Alright," She mewed. "Since we're on Breezeclan territory, Jaypaw should lead." Gorsepaw looked at Jaypaw through narrowed eyes. "She's barely an apprentice!" She growled. Friedlight looked at her apprentice sternly. "And she knows the territory better than anyone in this patrol." Friedlight mewed.
Jaypaw looked at the she-cat gratefully. She led the way along Windgrass Ridge, making it to the outer border of Breezeclan. "This is it." Jaypaw mewed. Silverstorm looked out at the land beyond Clan territory. "Do you know what's out there?" He asked Jaypaw.
