❝ 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐘 𝐌𝐄.❞
When Calypso was offered assistance to tend to her batch of vegetables, conversation with the persistent young man before her- was inevitable, she knew.
But a marriage proposal was the last thing she expected.
Her soft hands that were, a minute ago, diligently digging at the wet, earthy floor of soil that produced an abundance of carrots- froze.
She tucked a strand of her brunette hair behind her ear, pretending not to hear what she most definately, undoubtedly, did.
Fingers of her companion caught at her chin, gently forcing her to face him. "Will you marry me, Calypso?"
Eric Ophais was the youngest son of her pack's head enforcer- Phillip Ophais. Calypso did not have many friends, if she was being completely honest, she didn't have friends at all.
Being the illegitimate, half-bred of the Alpha, people avoided her as much as they could. And while the loneliness did bother her for years during her childhood, the twenty-four year old had grown quite accustomed to it with time.
One of the reasons how, was Eric.
Contradictory to their pack's behaviour, Eric was infatuated with Calypso ever since his eyes caught hers across the room, during a pack celebration when she was eighteen, and he was a mere young werewolf of sixteen years.
At first, Eric approached her with all platonic intentions attached. Eagarly asking her about her day, her interests and her dreams. While Calypso was wary of the werewolf's efforts, she eventually welcomed his friendship.
Until that is, friendship blossomed into something much more. The older they grew, the more evident it got that Calypso's only friend had more than friendly intentions.
It was innocent enough at the beginning.
He went from 'coincidently' meeting her at the pack library to 'coincidently' walking past her house.
Valentine's Day roses went from sweet yellow to passionate red, innocent bumps turned into suggestive touches. Calypso was no oblivious fool, she knew her friend didn't want to be just a friend.
So, as she stared at the blue eyes that shone with hope, she couldn't help it as pity and gulit washed over her, like a tide to a sandy sea shore.
It's not that she played him on. In fact, when she first realised his feelings she deliberately kept her distance. Ignored his flirtatious attempts and elaborate confessions, rejected the seventeen year old's love declarations with a firm "You don't know what you want yet"
But Eric is no longer that premature, childish young werewolf. He's grown into a wonderful, and dare she say, even ravishing, young man.
