THE SOUND OF KEYBOARD TAPPING SOUNDED throughout the drearily colored dorm room with a steady rhythm. Soft music played from the speakers of a beat-up iPhone with a gold case.

Irene let out a frustrated noise and pushed the laptop away from her — she couldn't focus. Her mind was spiraling in all different directions and she couldn't get this paper done. She sighed and took off her glasses. She needed some sort of distraction.

Irene grabbed her phone and got up. She put on her shoes and a jacket, "Mindy, I'm going to get some coffee! You want anything?"

Her roommate poked her head into the room, "Couldn't focus?"

"You know it. My mind is all over the place."

Mindy raised her brow, "And coffee will make it better?"

"I just need a distraction." Irene shrugs.

"Alright. I want a black coffee with two sugars."

Irene scrunches her nose up, "I will never understand how you like black coffee."

"You don't have to," Mindy stuck out her tongue, "Be safe. See you later." Then she disappeared back into her room.

Irene shook her head and walked out of the dorm. The café was about a five-minute walk from campus so she put in her earphones and got lost in the music.

As music from her playlist blasted into Irene's ears, she walked past a grocery store. Humming the lyrics of the song, she bumped into somebody.

"Shit! I'm so sorry-" Irene apologized, pulling out the earbuds, "Ethan?" She looked at the boy.

Ethan looked at the girl, as surprised as she was, "Irene? What are you doing here?" He asked.

"I could ask you the same thing," The girl let out a chuckle. "I thought you never go out."

The Landry boy rolled his eyes at her.

"Well, I decided that I should go to the cafe to get some coffee for me and Mindy, you know?" Irene replied. "What about you?"
