FOUR YEARS AGO
1. Keep your head down.
2. Don't make eye contact.
3. And whatever you do, don't let them see you cry. These are Jennie's Rules of Survival for Seoul University High School. Some days they work, but others—like today they're about as effective as her grabbing a pencil and shouting Expecto Patronum in this crowded hallway.
Sooyoung's eyes narrow on her, and Jennie shrink back from her hateful glare. She'll never understand why her very existence seems to piss that woman off, but right now, Jennie got a pretty good idea why it looks like Sooyoung's trying to use the force to strangle her.
It's because she just bumped into her.
Her. Sooyoung Park. Her #1 tormenter and Satan's #1 minion.
She'd ask what the chances are, but considering it was Sooyoung's boyfriend she was staring at, Jennie say the chances were pretty fucking good that she'd be close by.
New amendment to the Rules of Survival: Don't get distracted by Son Wendy's hotness.
Clutching her books to her chest, she instinctively glance away from Sooyoung. Unfortunately, Jennie's eyes land in Wendy's general direction.
Shit.
Sooyoung laughs derisively. "Did you seriously just run into me because you were too busy checking out my girlfriend? Oh my god." She laughs again, attracting attention from everyone around them.
Great. An audience.
Just what I need.
Sooyoung's pink, glossy lips curve into a sneer. "You know you don't stand a chance, right? Your zits are bigger than your tits. No guy is ever going to want you."
Humiliation burns through Jennie, making her face flame. It's not like any of that is news to her or the dozens of people within earshot. Hell, anyone who's seen her knows that she's ugly. She just hate that Sooyoung's doing this in front of Wendy.
She can't swallow past the hard lump in her throat, and her eyes sting something fierce. Just when she think the worst is going to happen, that she going to give Sooyoung the satisfaction of seeing her cry, Wendy steps forward.
"Knock it off, Soo. It's not like you're sportin' D cups over there."
Sooyoung's lips thin as snickers erupt around them. Jennie probably laugh too if her jaw wasn't on the floor.
Did Wendy just defend her?
She glance around, seeing that she's not the only one surprised. Everyone who's not smirking at Wendy's burn has a look of WTF on their faces, and for good reason.
Sooyoung terrorizes a lot of people—even teachers—and Wendy's never stood up for any of them. Not once. Why the hell would Wendy start with her?
When her eyes land back on Sooyoung, she suddenly wish Wendy hadn't said anything.
Sooyoung's not used to being humiliated and she doesn't give a shit that her boyfriend's the one who did it. The worst she'll do to Wendy is keep her legs closed for a few days, tops. As Queen B, she'd never break up with the hottest guy in school.
But Jennie? She's just the nerd Sooyoung got called out for bullying, and she's the one who'll bear the brunt of the woman's revenge.
The glare Sooyoung giving her promises pain and suffering for this affront, and Jennie have no doubt the evil woman exact her pound of flesh. The thought of the tall woman actively putting more effort into making her life a living hell makes her cringe.
