The wind blew and made Lucy's hair flick in front of her face. Don't focus on that, focus on nothing. that's what he said right? Lucy thought. Her master sat in front of her but not seen, just felt as her eyes were closed lightly. Stop thinking. You're interrupting our session with your dull comments. His voice made his way into her mind but her ears had heard no sound. How does he do that? She wondered. She became annoyed. Her thoughts were not boring, at least to her. She followed his instructions nonetheless and cleared her mind. A few more seconds went by in quiet before she felt something on her face. It seemed to feel like a blade of grass by the sharpness and when she opened her eyes to confirm it indeed was. It was right between her nose and forehead and upright, somehow standing in the wind. She peeled it from her face and as it left her fingers it zipped off into the rolling mounds of wind. "why have you broken your meditation, pupil?" Asked her sensei. His voice was completely calm but strong which made clear what level of mad he was. "sorry sensei, but there was a grass blade on my face and it irritated me." She tried to make an excuse and indeed it was true. But it wasn't good enough for her teacher. "Lucy, if you had been in a blank mind then you wouldn't have even noticed the green plant touch your face." "well its not easy okay? For a person like me having a blank mind doesn't come easily."she tried to defend herself again against her teacher. She had reason for not being able to focus, she knew it. Her mentor had been mastering this art for ten years. She had started two months ago. At first when she started training it was fine but now her mind found it hard to focus on one thing. A million thing bused in her head. She didn't know how but the incident that had occurred four months ago was still lurking in her mind. Her back suddenly seared with pain as a large foot pressed into it. It made her front bend into her crossed legs which also twisted her leg muscles as well. Her face winced with both the spreading pains making her uncomfortable to the point where she just wanted to slap her teacher off. But she couldn't because this was one of his lessons and she needed to apparently be taught. His foot was taken away from her back then and she sighed in relief, untangling her legs quickly and whipping around to look at him. "what was that for?!" She knew it had to be some part of a lesson but what lesson was unclear and as long as it was foggy she would be angry. "is your mind foggy because of that scar?" He asked abruptly. She shied away from that question with a small voice of "maybe."He scoffed like a teenager as he looked at her again. "okay, so it is that. Well what's bothering you about it?" He asked tiredly. He was not ready to be on this topic again."well, i dont know. I've just been thinking about it a lot more lately. Sometimes i have this dream about the guy who slashed me, but its not him. Its like this demon with red eyes and black skin.” At that last remark his eyes widened as he recognized her description. That sounded like daimonion... “Oh? Tell me more about this demon.” He tried to play it off cool but really he had to make sure lucys description was unfortunately of the cruel creature or not. Luckily lucy didn’t find his interest was fake. “Well, this character appears more than just in there. Sometimes i hear a whisper calling my name with a scratchy voice.” “how do you know its him?” “Because he says it in the same tone that he does in the dream, want and bloodlust.” He was surprised by his apprentice’s response. This was indeed daimonion, the devil’s apprentice some called him. That whisper of her name was his call, a call to be his host and feed off her supply of mentality, blood, everything. He was probably already inside her though, and he couldn't do anything. “sensei?” Her wondering voice drew him out of his brewing thoughts. Right, he had to tell her, but not here was his thoughts. Without warning he grabbed her arm and sprinted off into a forest only a few feet away from their place of meditation. As lucy was dragged behind him with her arm in his grasp her vision began to swirl and fade until everything became black and her eyelids opened to the dirt ceiling of the infirmary. I want to get back in tha dream, thought the blonde girl. She closed her eyes from the light coming from the left side, hoping to fall asleep into her dream again, but unsuccessfully as she only ended up laying there with her eyes closed. She opened her eyes again and turned to her left expecting to find a sleeping natsu but found empty sheets with a imprint on them. Where had he gone? Was lucys question. A few minutes later after calculating where he could have gone, lucy decided to go find a quiet hill. She wouldnt go too far or else the guild would come running after her, but she needed to clear her mind. She wanted to see her masters face again and yet she wanted it to fade away like he had. She grabbed her jean jacket to keep her warm and sneaked out the back door she had made for herself in the entrance down the stairs. After searching for an open spot she found one not too far away from the small guild. The wind up there was a little strong, but nothing she couldn't handle. She sat down and crossed her legs, her arms then put themselves in the hole her legs had made between them and her stomach. Her mind went blank as if staring at white paper. Nothing came to mind as she sat there and wind blew across her and the hill. She only payed attention to the shuffling of the grass as the wind gusted it. A few minutes later there was a shuffle in the the plants that was not patterned like the wind. An animal it was, human as well she concluded within seconds. She had to decide whether the being was friend or foe. By the way it moved, it seemed to come closer in a crawl, meaning it wanted to surprise her. That wasn't going to happen though lucy thought. She quickly pulled a small blade she kept in her pocket out from its holder, spinned around whipping open her eyes, and held the being in a throat hold. Realizing who it was with the pink hair, lucy’s eyes widened as she stepped back and let go. He sighed in relief of not being killed. “natsu?” She asked. “what are you doing here?” As she questioned him she put away her small blade into the pocket of her jacket. “looking for you, of course” He said after regaining his breath. “why?” She wondered. She had only been gone for a few minutes, what was wrong? “Well, when i came back to the room, you were gone and so i got worried.” He replied. Oh, so that was it thought lucy. He was worried about her. “well, sorry for causing trouble.” She said, sitting back down where she was before. “Its fine, all that matters now is that i've found you.” He said positively coming next to her and sitting down. They sat fairly close, only three inches apart, and watched what happened below. A family of three had a picnic, a couple was sitting together on a bench by the water, and surprisingly another couple was getting married. The duo looked at those two the most out of the three. The peaceful silence between them was broken by natsu asking “so you must have come here for a reason. Is this why? To watch love bloom?” Lucy answered him but did not look at his face, still entranced by the couple laughing as they took wedding photos “no, i came here to get my master off my mind.” She had decided at first to lie her way out and say something along the lines of no, other reasons but for some odd cause she told him the truth. “your master?” Natsu asked. Lucy thought of waving the question asking for more away but she nodded her head instead and told him the story of her master, excluding why she had wanted to get stronger in the first place. “well, it was a one day while you were gone, that this famous martial artist was coming through town. So i ran up to him and asked him to be my sensei. He said i was crazy and blew me off but i tried once more. For some reason, he let me then be his pupil. I trained with him and eventually he also taught me how to wield a sword. He kept it a secret from everyone else but me that he knew his way around a sword. Thats how yingyang made itself to my side.” She grabbed the swords handle on her waistband for a moment to signal that the sword was what she was talking about. “wow, that’s sounds pretty awesome! When i was training i didn't have any way to learn really new techniques.” Natsu said astonished. “huh.” was all Lucy could say. Silence overcame them until it was this time that lucy broke it. “so speaking of the year that you were gone, what about...” she trailed off, hoping to make clear what she was trying to say but not to be actually uttered. She had crumbled. She asked the terrible question of his father. She really was weak. She couldn’t even keep a distance for him not to get hurt. He looked away from her and into the river below. It swished as rocks blocked the way it would normally flow. “I’m still a little sensitive about that, but i'm fine now.” He then looked back into her eyes and smiled. “so dont worry about it, okay?” he really could make her feel okay in an instant. She smiled back after being shocked and nodded her head, scooting noticeably closer to the taller boy. They continued to watch the people below. The family picnic had ended and the newlyweds were gone, but the other couple remained. They were talking, too softly to be heard but suddenly the man got off the bench and on to one knee. He took a small box from his pocket and inside sparkled a tiny ring. The women seemed to gasp and then rushed into his arms in happiness. “That’s nice, two people who love each other getting engaged.” Lucy commented. Natsu looked at lucy in surprise but the blonde did not notice his stare. “yeah” Natsu agreed a few seconds later. His heart beat sped up as lucy’s mention of the idea gave him his own fantasies. What if lucy and i got married? Wait im think ahead way too far! I dont even know if she likes me yet! natsu’s rationality shook out the dreams of want. “Do you want to go back to the guild?” asked lucy. “sure” Natsu said absentmindedly, his mind still whirring with craziness. Does she like me? She probably doesn't. But what if she does? That’d be amazing, but what if we break up. That would be hell. I know she’s my life partner, igneel told me so. He said i’ll only have one of them and that will be the one that i admire the most. And i admire lucy so much and i love her. Gah i can't take it! I have to know her feelings! his mind had had enough. But whenever he worked up the courage to tell her on their way back, it would be dismissed. Finally he worked up the courage and started to say something but lucy beat him to it. “natsu?” “y-yeah?” He stuttered not expecting her to speak. They both stopped on the side of the street, where they wouldn't be blocking everyone’s way. The blonde fidgeted in her seat like she was in trouble, before saying. “im sorry for what happened when you came back.” he blinked a bit, trying to recall what the incident was. It had been in the farthest part of his mind but guessing by the look on her face she thought it was still fresh on his brain. “its alright. I understand why you acted the way you did.” Natsu replied with extra reassurance. He didn't want her mind to fuss over that silly little fight. A few seconds of quiet came and went before lucy said “okay, well lets continue our walk” quite awkwardly. The pink haired boy knew by the way lucy said it so rushed that she indeed did not feel that her behaviour was acceptable or forgiven. As they continued to walk side by side down the street natsu had a brilliant idea that would keep lucy from overthinking her behavior. He remembered that there was a festival going on right now. A festival of candles. What he didn't remember was why they celebrated them. But who cared? So at the turn to the guild hall natsu grabbed lucy’s wrist and headed the other direction. Surprised, lucy was stumbling over her feet to keep up with the fire dragon boy. “natsu, where are we going?” She asked loudly. He said without looking back at her “to a festival! To cheer you up!” She was confused by the answer. Cheer her up? She wasn't down in the first place. Besides even if she were she doubted he could make her feel better. Then again he did make anything possible. Contradicting herself over and over again in her mind lucy dropped the thought of telling him to stop running and go to the guild because one why not go along with it. Two this was how natsu was, spontaneous, and it would probably end up being an exciting adventure wherever it turned out to end. When natsu reached the opened up tents filled with magnificent treasures and people crammed in line for them he knew he was in the right place. Lucy and natsu entered the wave of people, holding hands so as not to get separated. When natsu spotted a tent he thought lucy like or he liked they stopped and bought something, or just admired things. Once and a while Lucy would pick up a dragon plushie as natsu did the same with good keys. They found a lady who sold firecrackers and so natsu bought a pack, went to the highest place he could find which was a sturdy roof and fired them off at people in the crowd. Lucy laughed as he did so. She had scolded him at first for hurting innocent people but he told her people did this all the time, showing her an example on another building with a small child and his old grandfather shooting the small rockets into people’s heads as he had been doing. The sun began to set as timed passed within what seemed like minutes. The festival did not falter for a step though. The people began to bring out violins and trumpets, blaring them in sweet melodies that people couldn't help but move their bodies to. The tent people began to sell candles as well. Some were charmed with secret potions, others were plain wax ones, but some were said to have luck in them. Specific good fortune as well. Like say you bought a candle that said you had a big chance of winning the lottery. Chances were you would win that money the next day. Natsu and Lucy unknowingly bought one of these candles and did not know what luck they were to have. The candles never read any fortune, you just had to lite it up and see with experience. They took themselves to a steep hill nearby and ignited the wick with a flick of natsu's firepower. As soon as the flame in their opinion was continued steadily, they took out the exotic foods they thought they might enjoy while waiting for the last big event of the night to happen. Lucy didn't know what this event was, but natsu was informed on what was to happen. He wouldn't tell her though when she asked. He said it was a surprise. Since they had to wait a while the two began to talk like they would on any regular day. It was almost as if they pretended that nothing had happened days before. Well, natsu did at least. Lucy had not convinced herself that it was okay that she hurt her friend. She didn't want to, or else in her mind that would be giving up to the hate she felt for him. yes, it still burned in her soul a hatred like a tiny dancing flame. It would waver when natsu would show that beautiful grin and tell her everything was alright. She melted every time. Suddenly, sleep lurked within her body. How odd, i wasn't tired mere moments ago lucy pondered why she had suddenly gotten so sleepy. Wanting to stay awake for the surprise, lucy leaned on natsu's shoulder and closed her eyes for a small cat nap to rest for the time being. She felt the bulk of his arms strong muscles which made her sink even more into the warmth he was producing quite rapidly. How nice, he's making me toasty were the mages lulled thoughts again. He was not making this heat purposely for her though. He was blushing head to toe and when you're a fire dragon slayer the only way you can release this crazy redness is by producing warmth. And so natsu for the time being became lucy's personal heat blanket once more. He didn't mind it though, he liked when lucy came close and snuggled with him. His heart became fuzzy just thinking about it. He shook out of it though. He looked down at her lovely face and then up at the sky. The stars seemed to shine brightly on her,the queen of diamonds. He wished a dream impossible soon after. To stay in this moment forever, when everything peaceful.
Lucy was quietly shook awake by the small nudges of the person she was laying on. She opened her eyes sleepily for a few moments but they were so heavy that she had to close them again She was too tired and needed more sleep."Luuucy, wake up. The surprise is about to come!"At the word surprise her eyes opened up and she sat up in delight. "Oh yes! What is it?"She asked. "You'll see. Just look up at the sky."Her wide eyes turned to the darkness. For a second, there was nothing. Then, a single white spark shot into the night and exploded every way. Soon other followed in different colors and shapes. Fireworks, Lucy remembered. She gasped in excitement, and she heard the man next to her chortle. Lucy started looking more closely at the shapes and letters. The first was an I, followed by a heart, and then an L. Who was L? That stumped her. Her question was stopped short when she felt a sensation felt before come over her stomach. She doubled over in searing pain. Immediately natsu realized his partner was having troubles and screamed in fright "Lucy!" Her pain it worse as the evil inside her screamed 'you thought you would escape, but now you pay the price for such a naive thought!' Her brain couldn't handle all the signals from her nerves ripping shred to shred trying to make the pain stop. She worked up to the point where she couldn't feel her skin and it was being melted over by something thick and black. Soon after that, she blacked out, wondering once more if she would wake up again.
