At the party, the Filipino girl, named Maria, was feeling out of place. She was more used to playing basketball with her friends or staying at home reading books than going to parties like this. She bumped into someone, and when she turned around, she found herself face to face with a girl she had seen around school before.

The other girl, named Sophie, was stunning. Her long, orange-brown hair was styled in loose waves, and her bright blue eyes sparkled with excitement. She wore a trendy dress and seemed to be the life of the party. Maria, on the other hand, wore a simple T-shirt and jeans and felt self-conscious about her appearance compared to Sophie.

"Sorry about that," Sophie said with a smile. "Are you new here?"

Maria shook her head. "No, I go to school with you."

Sophie's face lit up. "Oh, really? Which grade are you in?"

"Grade 11," Maria replied.

Sophie's eyes widened in surprise. "Me too! How have I not seen you before?"

Maria shrugged. "I'm not really into parties like this."

Sophie laughed. "I can tell. You look like a fish out of water."

Maria felt a pang of annoyance at Sophie's comment. She didn't like how the other girl seemed to look down on her for not fitting in with the party scene. She decided to walk away and find a quieter spot in the house.

As the night wore on, Sophie kept popping up in Maria's peripheral vision. She seemed to be everywhere, talking to everyone, and laughing loudly. Maria found herself feeling irritated by Sophie's presence, even though she didn't know her well enough to dislike her.

Weeks went by, and Maria and Sophie continued to cross paths at school. Sophie was popular, and everyone seemed to know her and want to be around her. Maria, on the other hand, stuck with her close group of friends and avoided getting involved in school drama.

One day, Sophie found herself in the bathroom during lunchtime, feeling overwhelmed. She had been watching TikTok videos in class, and it had made her think about her sexuality. She had always assumed she was attracted to guys, but lately, she had found herself admiring girls too. She wasn't sure what to make of it.

As she stood in front of the mirror, trying to compose herself, Maria walked in. Sophie froze, not wanting to reveal her vulnerable state to someone she barely knew.

"Hi," Maria said, washing her hands.

"Hey," Sophie replied, avoiding eye contact.

There was an awkward silence, and Sophie could feel her heart pounding in her chest.

"I like your hair," Maria said, trying to break the tension.

Sophie smiled, feeling a little more at ease. "Thanks. It's kind of my thing."

They chatted a bit more, and Sophie found herself opening up to Maria about her confusion over her sexuality. To her surprise, Maria was supportive and understanding.

"I've had crushes on girls before," Maria admitted. "It's not a big deal."

Sophie felt a flutter in her chest as she looked at Maria. She had always thought the other girl was pretty, but now she found herself drawn to her in a new way.

Over the next few weeks, Sophie found herself getting to know Maria better. They talked more at school, and Sophie started to see her as more than just the awkward girl from the party. She was smart, funny, and kind, and Sophie couldn't believe she had overlooked her before.
