Mochi's eyes flew open as a rooster screamed out. She waved her legs around until she flipped onto her feet. She stretch-walked to the window and leaped onto it's wooden frame. She leaped down into the soft, wet grass. She rolled around in the grass, feeling flowers tickling at her back.
Mochi had gotten her fur covered in drops of dew and stood, shaking them off. The sun was beginning to rise and the sky was a beautiful amber-orange color. Mochi padded gracefully to her twoleg's fence and got onto it in a single bound. She stared down from the giant orb that was the sun to the trees down below her hill.
That was where the wild cats lived. They called themselves "Snowclan", something she learned while observing them from the undergrowth. They must have been really crazy if they hadn't noticed her yet! And yet, Mochi almost wanted them to. She had heard of some " Willowclan " recruiting house cats, or as they said, "kittypets", into their clan. She would love being in a clan!
Alas, she knew she could never give up her life at the farm. It was even better than clan life! She got free food, a nice warm bed, a cuddly twoleg, toys galore! Everything she could ever need. Lastly, she could never get lonely. She had Jelly, her kitten.
Jelly was only about half a moon old. She was a white she-kit with icy blue eyes. But ever since Mochi had her, their twolegs began acting weird. They were always on their weird box things and never gave Mochi attention, and they pretended Jelly didn't exist!
Mochi was upset thinking about it, but she knew what would cheer her up! She leaped down from the fence and tumbled down the hill. The sun was high enough in the sky now to make it a nice blue. She scented more cats, so Mochi hid in some brambles.
"Pearpaw, remember your training. You've got this. "Koispeckle instructed her apprentice beyond the bushes.
" Sunpaw will wish he never dared offer to fight me! "Pearpaw boasted.
" 3..." Now the deputy, Coreheart, was speaking, "2... " Pearpaw and Sunpaw prepared in a battle-stance, "1! " The two apprentices leaped at each other. Pearpaw landed below Sunpaw, her belly exposed. Sunpaw landed backwards on top of Pearpaw and twisted to scratch at her belly, his mentor reminding him to keep his claws sheathed. Except, it seemed Sunpaw wasn't listening as blood oozed from thin scratches, staining Pearpaw's white belly fur. Pearpaw scrambled her claws at Sunpaw, head turned away. Pearpaw missed again and again, but turned over to place Sunpaw underneath her. Sunpaw squeezed his legs out from Pearpaw's weight and aimed a blow straight at her face, barely hitting her but slicing a tick in her ear.
"Stop! " Coreheart yelled. "Sunpaw wins! Honestly, I was hoping for Pearpaw to keep her seniority, but Sunpaw has earned to have his warrior ceremony before her. Congratulations. "Sunpaw wriggled away from Pearpaw and flicked her nose with his long tail before walking away with Coreheart. Suddenly, almost as soon as the two toms had disappeared amongst the trees, Mochi stepped on a twig and tumbled out of the bush, straight into Pearpaw's paws.
"Who are you?! Are you from another clan?! Get out of my territory! Now! "Pearpaw stood and flattened her ears and bared her teeth at Mochi, but Mochi could tell that Pearpaw wouldn't be something to fear by her tucked tail. Mochi giggled before flipping over and sitting calmly, replying with,
"I'm a kittypet. My name is Mochi, I mean no harm to you. "Mochi was an expert on these cats. She knew what to do. She thought so, anyhow.
" Well, go anyway! You should be with your silly twolegs! Or are you stealing prey? Or planning an ambush with the other kittypets?! "Pearpaw's fur was flying outwards now and her eyes looked almost crazy, and even though Pearpaw was clearly scared, Mochi was even more scared. Mochi couldn't resist the urge to turn tail and flee up her twoleg hill.
