For as long as Harry could remember he had been able to see people's aura. It wasn't something he talked about but it had been very helpful throughout the years.
He had done a lot of research to fully understand it. The electromagnetic energy fields surrounding all living organisms were usually in seven layers and each color and layer had a meaning and changed depending on how the person was feeling.
The physical body aura layer was the one closest to the skin and was associated with the person's overall bodily health. Then there was the emotional body aura layer that told him about the person's emotions.
The mental lower aura layer represented a person's thoughts and mental processes, the center of logic and reasoning. The astral body aura layer was about spiritual health, selflessness, self-compassion, and the capacity to love.
The celestial body aura layer covered a person's intuition and dreams. The last of the seven layers the casual body aura layer was the one on the outside, holding the rest of your auras together.
He knew how flimsy and new age it sounded if he tried to explain it so he just didn't. He didn't want to be the weird kid growing up and as an adult, he quickly realized that few people believed in auras. He believed in what he could see and he used it to his advantage.
He was an excellent judge of character. He could defuse an argument or comfort someone in need and he always knew when someone didn't like him, which wasn't always fun.
He had learned with time to block it out. He could turn it off if he wanted to and he often did, especially in a crowded place. People walked around looking like rainbows. It could be distracting sometimes but it was also beautiful. Most people had one or two colors present. When he found people with all the colors, like an actual rainbow he knew they were special and he tried to hold on to them. He hadn't found that many. One so far, his best friend Niall.
It wasn't always easy trying to decipher a person's aura but he liked the challenge. Red stood for strong energy, vitality, creative strength, and strong emotions. Then it depended on what kind of red the person's aura was to be able to figure out how they were feeling or how they were as a person. A light red meant joy, sexuality, and passion but a dark red meant that the person was nervous, stressed, or overworked. That was a crucial difference. If he was in bed with someone he wanted their aura to be light red not dark red.
There were three different kinds of oranges and at first, it had been difficult to spot the difference, but they all had different meanings. A normal orange meant that the person was creative, warm, and confident. But if the aura was orange-red the person was proud, idealistic, and vain. An orange-yellow on the other hand meant that the person was really smart, had confidence, and was efficient. So he tried to stay away from people with an aura that was very orange-red for example, especially combined with another negative color.
A person with a normal yellow aura was an idea machine. They loved to learn new things. A light yellow meant that they were open and had a strong personality and were intelligent, but a dark yellow meant that they were controlling, analytic and critical.
People with a normal green aura were honest and sensitive. If the aura was blue-green they were really kind but if it was dark green they were insecure and jealous.
So, the worst kind of people were the ones with dark-colored auras. A combination of orange-red, dark yellow, and dark green was a red flag. Douchebags, usually men who liked to abuse and control people. He had managed to help his sister get away from a man like that before she got too serious with him.
People with a normal blue aura were calm and affectionate. A light blue aura meant that they had a big imagination and intuition, and if the aura was indigo they were spiritual and had good judgment.
The purple spectra were interesting. A lavender aura meant that the person was deep and didn't share their inner thoughts, withdrawn. A violet aura meant that they were creative and artistic. A dark violet showed a person who had dignity and self-respect. His friend Zayn was all shades of purple. He was the first person he had met with that kind of aura and it intrigued him and made him reach out. Zayn wasn't easy to get to know but when he finally let him in it had been worth it.
Children's aura was usually different. A combination of white (pureness, creativity), pink (compassion, love, pureness, joy, sensitivity, shyness), and gold (enthusiasm, inspiration, and harmony).
And then there were people who had a black aura. Those were the ones he had to catch before it was too late. He had only seen one person with a black aura before. It had been in high school and he hadn't known what it meant back then. The girl committed suicide a day later. He could have saved her if he had only understood what her aura meant and he felt awful about it.
That was why he approached a stranger one day and he refused to let him go before his aura changed because he knew what that dull, back color meant.
