It was nine o'clock at night. Everybody was sitting on the couch in front of the TV. There was Mason, Joy, Peter, and Amelia, babysitter. All of a sudden, the phone rang.
"Maybe it's your mother" said Amelia, and got up to answer the phone. Before she could even say "hello" a man laughed hysterically on the other end and then hung up.
"Who was it?" asked Mason.
"Just a prank caller" Amelia assured him "Now what did I miss?" At nine-thirty, the phone rang again, Amelia ran to answer it. It was the same person as before.
"I'll be there soon" he said and laughed, then he hung up.
"Who was it this time?" asked Joy.
"Wrong number" said Amelia, and put Peter back in her lap. At ten o'clock, the phone rang again. Peter had fallen asleep and Amelia had gone upstairs and put him in his crib. That time, Mason got to the phone first.
"Hello?" he said.
"One more hour" said the man, and hung up once more.
"Amelia," he said, coming back into the living room "A man just called and said 'One more hour,' what does that mean?"
"It's just someone fooling around" Amelia told him "Don't pay any attention to it."
"I'm still scared" he said. Then, at ten-thirty, the phone rang once more. When Amelia picked up the phone, the man said "Pretty soon now."
"Why are you doing this?!" shrieked Amelia, and he hung up.
"Was that the same guy?" asked Mason.
"Yes" said Amelia "I'm going to call the operator and complain." The operator told her to call back if ti happened again, and she would try to trace the call. At eleven o'clock the phone rang again, and Amelia wasn't surprised that it was the man again.
"Very soon now" laughed the man, and hung up. Amelia quickly called the operator after, and almost immediately the operator told her "Get out of the house now. The call was made from your upstairs rooms."
Amelia grabbed the sleeping Joy, and were about to head out of the house when a man came down the stairs with a strange smile on his face. Amelia and Mason rushed out and got into the car and locked all the doors. Amelia called the police from her cell phone and they watched from the car as the police searched the house. They found Peter's body still sitting in his crib, soaked with blood. The crazy man's knife was still stuck in his head. The nursery window was still open and the curtains were fluttering in the breeze.
The man had escaped. Several murders have been reported all across the country. Who knows, you could be next...
