Emu knew how to bake, very well she would say. As she stuck the wooden spoon into the cake batter and resisted the temptation to lick the spoon, she hummed loudly to herself.

"The cake is full of wonder, and I yell wonderhoy! And when I bake it I will make it full of love and joy!" She sang. The wooden spoon was plunged into the bowl yet again, and as she mixed it around she danced along with her little tune.

She wanted this to be perfect. It had to be. The mixture was poured into the tin evenly and pushed into the oven, and with one big breath Emu shut the door, spun and fell back onto the sofa.

"Hona is going to love this!" She tapped on her girlfriends contact and on to the call button. Was it ruining the surprise a little? Sure but Honami was coming over today anyway, so it was perfectly fine. She, and she had plans to bake with her later. Honami picked up the call, and Emu grinned into her phone. "Good morning! How are you today?"

"Morning Emu.." Honami rubbed her eyes, but it was clear that she wasn't annoyed. "I'm doing great. You're really excited for today aren't you?"

"Well why wouldn't I be? You're coming over to mine for a sleepover! I have some special things in store!" Emu started to harshly whisper, remembering that Honami did live with her younger brother and she didn't want to wake him. Emu was now in the living room and her family was out already so she didn't have too much to worry about.

"That's just fantastic Emu." She yawned. It was still early. "Do you need me to bring anything over? Aside from my DVDS."

"Hmmm...Apple pies...the regular sleepover things...yep that's it!" Emu bobbed her head around, looking at the timer she set on the table. It slowly ticked away, but she could already smell the cake from where she was. She held her phone up in the air. "This is going to be so fun!"

"It is!" Honami answered, trying to match Emu's enthusiasm. "But uh, you don't need to whisper, my brother is already awake. He would have heard you anyway."

"Oh really?" Emu laughed, then her voice returned to its usual. "That's fun!"

Honami's camera flicked off and Emu heard her getting up from her bed before the camera was turned back on to her face. "I'm going to go brush my teeth and get myself some breakfast, I won't be too long okay?" She gave Emu a sweet smile, and all Emu did was nod happily. Honami hung up and Emu's eyes were dragged back to the timer.

"I can't wait to see the smile on her face when she sees this!" she leapt back toward the oven and peeked inside, the cake was baking nicely. She was pre-making and decorating this one just as a sort of starter. What else could she do this early in the morning, and even then, what time was it now? She checked the clock on the wall, 9am on the dot. Only a few hours and Honami would be here!

Emu ran to her room to double check if it was in a good enough state, and it was, considering she spent all of yesterday trying to tidy it. The plushies on her bed stared back at her, and she bundled one in her arms. "She'll never know what hit her." she laughed a little maniacally.

Then the timer went off, and as quickly as she entered the room she ran back to the kitchen to pull the cake out of the oven and turn off the timer before she both burned the cake and the timer annoyed her half to death. The cake was a nice golden brown, perfect. Now all she needed to do was decorate and wait for Honami.

"Hi Emu!"

"Hi!" Emu threw her arms around Honami in an attempt at a bear hug, and Honami accepted it in a laugh. She gave her girlfriend a kiss on the forehead as she was let into the house. The first thing she caught was the overwhelming smell of vanilla, and the cleanliness of the whole house. And the rainbow sprinkle cake sitting on the counter. "I know we said we would bake later but...I couldn't help it!"
