A New Beginning

Ever since I was little, music was a need for me. I was constantly singing and dancing along with music. In middle school, I was into bands. I always had headphones plugged into my ears, and I was always wearing some type of band merch. In high school, I had made it into a show choir. I enjoyed the singing and dancing that the choir had to give. And even today, on my first day at West Flash Univeristy, I have music dancing around in my head from my headphones. Honestly, I don't know what this school will have for me, but I hope it has some type of music opportunity.

Although I made it to this college, I'm not sure what I want to do as a career. The thought of sitting at a desk for seven hours, or working in the heat for an entire day just didn't suit my interest. And honestly, I had no clue what interested me. The only thing I had a passion for was music. But I knew I wasn't good enough to make it into the music industry. So, I gave up that dream and came to this school undecided.

My mom and dad had been dragging bags of clothes and food onto my dorm. I just HAD to be on one of the highest floors, and my parents just HAD to bring dozens of bags. I sighed in relief when I finally found my room number.

Floor 8 door 1462

Grabbing my key, I shoved it into the door knob and unlocked the door. The room itself was pretty small, but in a way comfortable. The walls weren't white as I thought they would be, but they were a nice dark purple color. It made sense considering we were on the girls floor. I'm sure each room had some type of color. My parents and I threw my stuff onto an empty bed by the window, and I wanted to cry at the thought of unpacking all of this. I heard my mom sniffle behind me, and I turned around. "Mom? Are you okay?" But the look in her eyes told me everything I already knew. She was going to miss me. Her only daughter - child - was off leaving her to go to college. My Dad wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her in for a hug. His other arm extended out to me, inviting me in for one last hug before they had to leave. I felt the emotions crawl up into my throat, making it hard to speak. I walked into my parents embrace, and hugged them tightly. My Mom slightly shook as she cried, and Dad and I comforted her. My Dad and I have always been alike, especially when it came to Mom. It wasn't until my parents ended the hug did I realize how much I was going to miss them. They said their goodbyes, gave me one last kiss on the cheek, and left. I was left alone in this empty room, trying to regain my composure. I rubbed the tears from my eyes and began unpacking to distract myself from the thoughts of my parents.

I heard the click of the door unlocking and the door busted open. A beautiful blonde barged into the room. She had boxes stacked up to her chin, and two people came into the room behind her, and if I could have guessed, I would have guessed they were her parents. She groaned as she dropped the boxes but then noticed I was there. A radiant smile lit up her face as she introduced herself. "I'm your roomate. My name is Samantha, but you can call me Sam". She extended her arm for me to shake. "And I think we're going to be great friends."
