The group sat around in a circle. We had decided to meet up in Sam and I's room, deciding what our band name should be. We had suggested so many names, and my papers were scattered on the floor. Sam cleared her throat before announcing, "Let's think of something that interest us". The group pondered for a while until Amy said "The Galaxy". Sam wrote down the word. David said "Shadows". Hunter looked at the cieling from Sam's bed. "I think we should do something we all have in common. Rather than adding in seperate things we like. We're a band, we're a family. What's something we all have experienced?" Hunter said, leaning up and looking at all of us. The room was quiet in thought, except for Derek, who was playing around on his phone. I heard a soft lock sound as Derek shoved the phone into his back pocket. "We're all alone here. No family, so I guess that's something we have in common." Derek said. A few people in the group nodded their heads. "I suppose we are. What's a good word for that? Alone? Independent? No. That doesn't sound very rockish." Sam sighed, dropping her pen onto her notebook so she could hold her face in her hands. I spoke up, "Forsaken." I said. The group tested the word on their lips. They all nodded in approval. David slyly smiled. "Can we add Shadows to the name?" We all laughed. Derek said aloud, "Forsaken Shadows".
That's our name. Forsaken Shadows. I like it.

The group decided that since we had the band name, we would begin practice tomorrow. But tonight, we would celebrate. We walked down to the beach, a few miles from the campus. It was sort of chilly, since it was dark and a little late at night. I looked at my watch. 8:34 PM. The water would no doubt be cold, so the group decided to make a fire instead. As we walked down the beach, we found a pit and started the fire. Amy had brought sticks and food for marshmellows. We all took one and stuck it into the burning fire. The only sound that surrounded us was the cracking of fire, and the crashing of waves. Amy leaned her head on Davids shoulder, and Sam leaned her head on Hunters. I shifted uncomfortably next to Derek, but he didn't seem to notice. Or he just didn't care. I excused myself from the group, taking my marshmellow away from the fire and putting it on my mouth, cussing at the burning heat in my mouth. I walked along the shore of the ocean, the water kissing my ankles. Only a few minutes later did I hear the crunching of sand behind me. I turned around to see Derek with a cigarette in his mouth. "You smoke?" I asked. He took the cigarette from his mouth, the smoke like a waterfall from his mouth as he spoke. "Yeah, always have. Why? Is there a problem?". I rolled my eyes and turned around. "No not at all. Not like second hand smoke exist or anything." I said, walking down the beach again. I felt his hand clamp down on my wrist before whipping me around to face him. "I'm disappointed. It's rude to walk away in the middle of a conversation." A smirk grew behind the cigarette. I yanked my hand from his grip. "And it's rude to smoke around people who don't like it." He slightly groaned before taking it from his mouth and tossing it in the ocean. "The Hell?! What was that?" Did he just do that? Seriously, this guy. "What? You didn't like it- I got rid of it. Problem solved." I shook my head. "No. Not solved. Not only did you smoke, but you also liter. Great, what joy you are." He laughed slightly. "I don't like you" I mutter. His eyes sparkled a bit at my reaction. "Likewise." With that, he brushed past me. With those grey eyes filled with humor, and that smirk that was on his face when he got on my nerves. I huffed, walking back to the group. But the entire walk back was filled with annoyed thoughts of our conversation.
