I come home feeling exhausted and irritable. I shrug out of my suit jacket and kick my heels off my aching feet.

I head into the living room and the delicious aroma I smelt at the door gets stronger.

I see my girlfriend in the kitchen, cooking dinner. I head over and wrap my arms around her waist. She smiles and turns around in my embrace.

"Welcome home, Beautiful." Rhea bends and kisses my lips, making me a little feel better.

"Thank God, I'm home." I mumble against her lips.

"Im almost done in here. Go sit down and relax. I'll call you when dinner is ready." She says and I obey.

I head into the living room and sit down on the couch. Our orange tabby, trots over and jumps into my lap. I smile and kiss his fluffy head.

"Well, hello Mr. Cutie pie!" I greet him and he purrs against my face.

I continue to pet him and lean back against the couch to rest. I grab the remote and scroll through tv shows to watch on Hulu. I give up after awhile and just settle with petting Garfield.

"Come eat!" Rhea calls.

I pick up Garfield and place him on the floor. Rhea made some chicken tacos and I smile.

"For some reason, I feel like you knew I'd have a bad day." I mumble and Rhea sighs.

"I heard your job was laying off a bunch of people." She says.

"And you just knew that I would be one of them?" I ask.

Rhea frowns. "No. But, I decided you'd appreciate your favorite meal regardless. I don't want you to be stressed, babe."

I sigh and head to the table.

"I don't wanna be stressed. But, I have to find a job or I'll go crazy." Rhea hands me a beer and I sip it.

"You could always be my housewife. You know you don't have to work. Besides, I pay you a lot better than some job." Rhea says and I shake my head.

"It's not about the money, it's about feeling like I'm helping around here! I don't want to be someone who lives off her partner!" I sigh and Rhea frowns.

"But, I want to take care of you, Mya. It wouldn't bother me, you know?"

"It would bother me, Rhea. Let's just drop it." I sigh.

"No, I wanna talk about this. Why do you act like it's so wrong for me to take care of you?" Rhea asks.

I sigh. "I'm not talking about this right now."

Rhea gives me a look and I ignore it.

"You know what? I'm not hungry." I get up and take my plate to the stove.

I place my uneaten tacos in the pan and rinse my plate in the sink.

"I'm going to shower and go to bed early. We'll talk tomorrow." Without waiting for her to respond, I head to our bedroom.

I wasn't in the shower for more than three minutes. I scrub my body, as my Spotify playlist plays in the background. The sounds of smooth jazz calms me little by little.

I hear the bathroom door open and close. I turn my head and see Rhea's blurred reflection through the glass shower door. I let the warm water wash the soap suds from my body and hold my breath, as I hear the shower door open.

I take a deep breath, preparing myself to argue, but Rhea just wraps her arms around me. I let her pull me against her and I let out the sigh I was holding.
