As Asher was busy collecting his thoughts on how to get Lena's forgiveness, his phone rang.
It was Lena.
Asher's heart raced as he answered the call. "Lena, hi," he said, trying to keep his voice calm.
There was a moment of silence before Lena spoke. "Asher, can we meet up?"
Relief washed over Asher. "Yes, of course. Where do you want to meet?"
Lena suggested a cafe in the city, and they agreed to meet there in an hour.
As Asher drove to the cafe, he couldn't stop thinking about what Lena might say. Would she forgive him for what he had done? Or would she never want to see him again?
When he arrived, Lena was already there, sitting at a table near the window. She looked up as he approached and gave him a small smile.
"Hi, Asher," she said, her voice soft.
"Hi, Lena," he replied, feeling a knot in his stomach.
They ordered coffee and sat in silence for a few moments, both unsure of where to begin.
Lena was sure she was ready to forgive Asher, and maybe become friends with him too.
She took a deep breath before speaking, trying her best to articulate her thoughts. "Asher, I've had some time to reflect on what happened between us. And I've come to the conclusion that I want to forgive you."
Asher's heart lifted at the words. "Thank you, Lena. I'm so sorry for what I did. I know it was wrong, and I regret it deeply."
Lena nodded, sipping her coffee before continuing. "I forgive you, Asher. And I want to try and move past what happened. Maybe, just maybe we can try and be friends."
Asher's face lit up, excitement taking over his demeanor.
"That would be amazing, Lena. I would love that," he said, smiling.
Lena returned the smile, feeling a sense of relief that they could move forward. "I'm glad we can put this behind us," she said.
They continued to talk and catch up, both feeling a newfound sense of comfort with each other. As the evening wore on, Lena found herself feeling attracted to Asher once again. She couldn't help but smile and flirt with him a little.
Asher noticed the change in her behavior and couldn't believe his luck. Maybe this was a chance to start over, to show Lena that he was a changed man.
As the night came to an end and they said their goodbyes, Asher couldn't help but feel hopeful for the future. Perhaps, just perhaps, they could start something new.
"Guess what?" Asher asked Maya who was now spending quite much time at his place. He was going to ask what happened, but with everything going on, he couldn't remember.
"What is it?" Maya responded with the same enthusiasm.
Asher told her what intervened between Lena and him that day and go they have agreed to be friends.
"That's great!" Maya said.
"Yeah, it is, now tell me what is wrong with you?" The writer asked his best friend.
And like that, Maya's face turned sour. Arjun has beem cheating on her, but she didn't know how to tell Asher.
Asher noticed the change in Maya's demeanor and immediately knew something was wrong. "Maya, what happened?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.
Maya hesitated before finally admitting, "Arjun has been cheating on me."
Asher's heart dropped. He couldn't believe that his best friend was going through something so difficult. "I'm so sorry, Maya," he said, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Maya's eyes welled up with tears as she recounted the painful experience. Asher listened intently, trying his best to comfort her and offer words of encouragement.
After Maya finished speaking, Asher held her close, feeling her pain as if it were his own. "I'm here for you, Maya. Whatever you need, I'm here," he said softly.
Maya looked up at Asher, grateful for his presence and support. In that moment, she realized how much she truly cared for him. She leaned in and kissed him.
Asher's eyes widened, and in a swift motion, he pushed Maya away.
"What are you doing?" That question seemed to break her out of her thoughts.
"Oh my God, I am so sorry Asher. I should go, I will go now. I'm sorry." She apologized frantically, gathering her things and running out of the place like it was on fire.
Asher could only imagine, what was going through his friend head.
"Why did she kiss me? He asked himself confusedly.
He shrugged and thought some writing would lift his spirit.
He decided to write a poem about friendship, his newfound one with Lena.
Two souls trying to become friends,
A bond that needs to mend.
Trying to build a trust anew,
Dealing with the pain and the hurt that ensues.
Knowing that it won't be easy to do,
But worth it if it can come through.Uncertainty and fear along the way,
But no one said it would be easy, no way.
A chance to start again,
A chance to rebuild, begin to mend.Hesitation and doubt,
Will they be able to work it out?
Taking a risk in order to find truth,
Forging a friendship and breaking through.Leading down a path of uncertainty,
Two souls together, working it out diligently.
A friendship that will last a lifetime,
The beginning of a journey so sublime.
Not knowing….Before he could finish his line, his phone rang, thinking it was Maya, or Lena, he rushed forward, but it was Arjun.
He contemplated on picking the call or not, in the end, he did.
"You asshole!"
