...

She was in love. Yeah, she knew that Abbey was much better than her, super outgoing, had a ton of friends, hell, she could probably pull any guy in their school by a single look or phrase she threw at them. How on earth could someone as special as her love anyone like Marra? Marra was more of an introvert, she liked musicals, she was in band, she had a few close friends and she was madly in love with Abbey. No matter how hard Marra tried to convince herself that Abbey might like her the way she does to her, deep down she knew she would never be anything more than one of her friends.

...

"Are you absolutely serious right now Marra!?" her friend Kasey was yelling at her over the phone.
Kasey was one of Marra's close friends and one of Abbey's as well. Kasey had been trying to get them together for the past couple months she's known them. Kasey is pretty nice and sweet but once you get to know her.. she's pretty crazy.
"I'm sorry! I'm just nervous-" Marra said as she ended the sentence with a sigh. Kasey sighed as well.
"It's alright, it's just.." Kasey started but then stopped, "You know. You guys obviously have a thing for each other, and it's just.. I'm worried for you. If you don't confess, what if someone else does before you?" Kasey stated as she played a song in the background of the voice call.
Kasey was right. What would happen if Abbey chose someone else over her? Marra was now even more nervous than before.

And that's how Marra ended up here, standing in front of Abbey. Abbey was smiling at her while Kasey stood by her side like always.
"So, uhm, hi Abbey.." Marra said as she blushed so much you could probably see it. Abbey giggled. God was she pretty, Marra thought to herself smiling.
"Hi! Kasey said you wanted to talk, so what's up?" she said in a cheerful tone. Kasey smiled at Marra and then proceeded to run after one of her other friends. Darn you Kasey, she thought once more.
"Oh yeah! I was just wondering if you maybe, if you're not busy, would like to hang out?" Marra said with an awkward grin. Abbey's eyes seemed to sparkle as she said that.
"Of course! I'd love to hang out with you." she said with an innocent smile. Marra could shout about how beautiful she looked right now. Even with Kasey screaming down the hall that Abbey looked like a banana.
...

Marra had texted Abbey to meet her at a walking trail for their 'hang-out'. Once Marra's mom had dropped them off, making some comments about curfew and other things, they started to walk. They talked about anything that was on their minds. For example, Abbey was excited to see Marra, scared about the fact that Kasey might be moving, exhausted from color-guard practice, how she wanted to cuss out kids from their school, etc. Marra on the other hand talked about how she was planning on seeing a musical with her one friend, her upcoming ensemble, and how she too wanted to cuss kids out from their school. Marra held Abbey's hand as they looked around at the nature, the tall trees towering over them and the small creek that ran through the forest. It was beautiful but nothing could compare for the beauty of the love they had for each other. Abbey then saw a playground up ahead as she wiggled out of Marra's grasp and ran towards it. Once she reached it, she started climbing, sliding, everything she could do. Marra watched her as a group of familiar popular kids from their school who came strolling up to her.
"Hey there," one said as he smirked at her. Marra nervously played with her thumbs as another boy put a hand on her shoulder. Marra closed her eyes tightly in fear.
"Hey! Leave her alone!" Marra heard Abbey shout. She opened her eyes to see Abbey, the girl she's known as sweet and kind, absolutely beating the living daylight out of one of the boys.
"Anyone else?" she said holding her fists up to them. The boys backed up a bit before grabbing their fainted friend and running away. Abbey climbed to the top of the playground with Marra as they sat down.
"I didn't know you could fight." Marra said smiling. Abbey shrugged.
"Neither did I!" Abbey chuckled looking at the sunset. If Marra could take a picture of her right now, she totally would. To Marra, Abbey looked absolutely breathtaking. That's when Marra realized, if her and Abbey ever grew apart, if Abbey chose someone else over her, if they grew old together.. she would have always loved her for the sparkle in her eye.
