As they stood outside the bar that Mike turned into a massive raging party which immediately calmed down upon his departure, Mike had this aura of instigation around him, always the troublemaker, he began with speaking a simple phrase; "I'm bored"
Billy, tired of always being at Mikes beck and call replied "okay, get not bored"
"How?"
"Do Something"
"What?"
"i don't know, youre the genius, you figure it out"
The instant he'd said that he knew he'd fallen right into Mikes arms.
Mike then said, "Lets rob a liquor store"
"Are you crazy, you demented bastard?"
"Just maybe. Just do this and ill tell you something"
The way he said it.
Billy could see something in the way Mike said those words, he tried to add some humor like it was an unfunny sarcastic joke but there was this twitch that came and went from his face like a bug your arm when youre about to swat it. Like he was sad, not sad exactly but like there was something there. You couldn't tell exactly but Billy knew this wasn't some joke or prank, Mike wouldn't appreciate him calling him out this early in the night, hed need his blood pumping first, so he decided that hed play along with the guys farce, whats the harm?
Well aside from maybe getting arrested.
But Mike was no criminal, he mustve thought this out, he couldn't possible want to rob a liquor store and risk getting arrested, he was smarter than that.
Billy spent what seemed like an age in thought when Mike broke the minute long silence.
"Lets go"
"Fine, you lead the way, but you better not get me arrested you irascible pain in the arse"
It would seem that these boys planned on taking the city by storm.
At least what qualified as a storm for two guys in way above their heads and their heads too far above the clouds for sanity. They were both practical, pragmatists but they were dreamers, and pragmatism wasn't always the most fun way of doing things.
"Before I do anything I might regret", Billy continued, "What's exactly going through your head?"
"A thousand things at once and a not a single damm thing." Mike said with this devilish grin across his face.
"I hate it when you get that look." Billy said almost regretting agreeing to be Mikes chaperone for the evening.
He'd be reduced to bailing Mike out of trouble , he always was, but he never stopped doing it, he probably knew why but he never really faced it, he was afraid it might be too worthless for him to do it again.
Then again he might not have had any reason short of the fact that Mike was his oldest friend, or that he was Mikes oldest and probably only friend.
"You better tell me what you planned on telling me or youll be sorest In the city come the Sun rise"
"We'll both be sore, but don't worry, you won't regret it, at least most of it" Mike said with a sly wink.
And the night began.
