the Feeling of Pain

You've never been able to feel pain.

The humans from the laboratory thought it was some kind of mutation that happened during your development, but over time they felt that it wasn't bad to have a hero in the works that wouldn't be able to feel pain.

"Well, it certainly differs from when I last saw it." The male scientist studied the screen with your stats and spoke aloud. "Comparing the two, the one from today seems like it's from a completely different person."

"Will that affect it at all?" The Chairman stood behind the scientist and looked over your statistics.

"No, no, this can be good. This is something that we weren't able to achieve with Number Two before. In fact, it's amazing that it was able to develop like this on its own, I'm surprised."

"Is that so?" The Chairman looked in your direction, where you were strapped to an examination table with familiar cords attached to your body. "Well, make sure you treat it nicely, there's only one of them." He stated with a smile and said his goodbyes. He gave you one last glance before he walked out the door, officially giving the male scientist full reign.

"You've been busy, haven't you, Number Two." The scientist scribbled some notes, "It must have been difficult, being alone all this time." He chuckled, "Though you might not even understand what I mean by that."

You didn't.

You lay still on the examination table, giving in to the fact that you've returned to what you ran away from in the first place.

You couldn't think of a reason to run away again, as you weren't needed anywhere anymore.

You close your eyes and enjoy the peace while it lasts.

"Damn it Two, focus!" A human yelled at you, causing you to look up from the ground.

"Please..." The woman stopped to take a breath to calm herself. "That's enough of the daydreaming, Two. I need you to look at me."

"Look at me, Two."

This sick sense of deja vu. You could almost predict everything these people wanted to say.

"We're learning this right now. Can you please give me your attention?"

"Can you please give me your attention? We're trying to learn this right now."

It's sickening.

You look at what she was trying to show you. It was a photo of a human, with his face contorted into an expression.

"Now... can you please tell me what emotion this man must be feeling."

You study the image, furrowed brows with wrinkles in between them, and raised lips that formed a deep frown. The man held both of his hands up and massaged his temples with two fingers.

"Do you know the answer?" She asked.

You give her a look and don't respond. This causes another deep sigh to leave her mouth as she rubs the bridge of her nose. "Come on, Two. I know you can speak. Please put in some effort."

You don't respond.

Looking as though she wanted to give up, she reached for the bag next to her and pulled out a familiar laminated paper. "Alright fine, point out the answer."

Your eyes skim across the paper to find the answer, your eyes stop and you raise your finger to point at a word.

"Frustrated. Good." She didn't seem at all proud of your answer but instead changed the image to another human with an expression.
