14. Broken Wrist

it's another sunny 2013 summers day, and all the boys are out at the private pool. they're all on the sun loungers, beers in hand. all of a sudden, niall got up and cannonballed into the pool, splashing the four other boys.

Zayn: what was that for?!

Niall: i'm boredddd!! what's the point in being at the pool if we're not going in the pool?!

Louis: he's got a point lads.

Harry: fair.

Liam: how about we go to the doors and see who can get to the pool first? like a race.

Niall immediately hopped out of the pool and ran to the doors. The other four got up and walked over, clearly not as excitable as niall. Louis counted down from 10 and they were off. just before he jumped into the pool, harry slipped. in an attempt to stop hitting his head, he put his hands behind him on the floor. his wrist rolled under his weight and he screamed. The other boys, now in the pool, jumped out and ran over to their injured friend.

Louis: what happened harry?

Harry was clutching his wrist, which was now all puffed up and swollen. He shook his head, signalling that he couldn't answer. Louis looked at his wrist and immediately knew what to do.

Louis: right zayn, go grab me some ice and make sure it's wrapped up in something, niall call an ambulance and liam help niall, i don't trust him.

Niall: hey i-

Liam: on it.

Zayn: yep, won't be a minute.

Louis: okay harry, where does it hurt?

Harry managed to muster up a few words.

Harry: wrist.. fuck..

Louis nodded and within minutes, zayn was there with the ice, wrapped neatly in a small hand towel.

Zayn: here! Also the paramedic just arrived, niall's letting her in.

Louis nodded and the paramedic came rushing over. she had gas and air all ready for harry. they knelt down next to harry, speaking in calming tones.

Amanda: hi harry, i'm amanda, i'm going to help you okay?

Harry nodded. 

Amanda: right, i'm going to give you some gas and air and them i'm going to check your wrist out.

harry gave a thumbs up with his other hand and gladly took the gas and air. amanda picked up his arm that was rested on his lap and took a good look, harry wincing at the pain, still clutching the gas and air. then amanda started pressing it.

Harry: NO NO NO STOP PLEASE!

Zayn: harry it's okay!

Harry shook his head.

Niall: hold my hand harry.

Louis: yeah do that, i'll hold the gas and air still.

Louis held the gas and air whilst niall held harry's hand, and amanda began pressing his wrist again. 

Amanda: yeah, you've done some serious damage buddy.

Harry threw his head back and groaned.

Amanda: harry, can you stand up so we can get you to the ambulance please?

Niall: me and louis will help you harry.

Niall took harry under one arm whilst louis took him under the other and helped him walk to the ambulance, leaving zayn and liam at the pool. They went inside the villa and waited for niall, louis and harry to return. 

Zayn: god i hope it's not too bad.

Liam: yeah bless him, i should've never suggested racing by the pool.

Zayn and liam chatted until they hear the key turn and the lock click. niall, louis and harry walked through the door. Harry had a huge cast up to the middle of his forearm and a sling.

Liam: harry!! 

him and zayn both went running over.

Zayn: so what'd you do?

Harry: well, she said i've broken two bones in my wrist and fractured another, and that's about it really.

Liam: i'm so sorry, i should've never suggested doing that.

Harry: it's fine liam, don't stress it.

Louis: to be honest, niall did more crying then harry.

Zayn: why's that?

Louis: well, only one of us could go into the room, so i went, and when i came out without harry, i told nialler here that harry was going to loose his whole arm.

Niall: well it's not my fault you're a good actor!

They all laughed and hugged harry. the next few days was spent signing harry's cast, helping him around the house and teasing niall about how gullible he is. after 7 weeks in the cast and 4 weeks in a brace, harry's arm was back, and not chopped off, making niall happier.

*authors note: i had a broken and fractured wrist, so thought i'd use a tiny bit of personal experience in this!!*
