📖| Highschool AU | part 1

(okie so before we begin i'll give a brief explanation for this AU and yes idc if it's stereotypical

Otterly: Junior-Awkward nerd

Mars: Junior-Badass Trouble kid

Maeri: Freshman- Soft Plant Friend

Fab: Sophomore- Theater kid

Mokey: Sophomore- Athletic and Theater kid

Otterly POV

sitting at my desk staring at my notebook spacing out, 'theater practice tonight since i mostly help backstage i should probably just make the scenes which should be easier said then done' as i think i start sketching out my ideas for underwater sets as the play is The Little Mermaid. Unlike some theater kids the leads aren't that bad, Fabrics is playing Ariel and i've known them for a while we are good friends and they are very talented however Mokey,the guy playing prince eric, is somewhat annoying that ive noticed. I only know him though fabrics so we are on good terms but they are very loud so we aren't that close.

Sketching out my ideas i see a note slid onto my desk, knowing it was fabrics who wrote it, "you helping sets tonight?" i read looking at a few doodles of random stuff. i reply back with a simple "yep i know i'm the only strong person who can make this thing happen :P " and i quickly give the note back. I see him chuckle and roll their eyes at my sarcasm as i now realized 'shit how am i actually gonna build this? the only thing i could lift is someone else's standards' i snap out of it when i hear the bell ring for our last class for the day.

i grab my shit and start heading to my last class as a blue/green hair child walked next to me. "You know Mokey and I could practice our lines another time and help you with the sets" they offered as i shook my head "no cause then i'd hear nothing but him complaining besides i'm sure i could do it myself or have someone else help me a little" i chuckle as i see a familiar pink hair person up ahead. "alright fine but if you need us we will be in the green room practicing lines" fabrics reminded me as maeri butts in "yea more like practice making out" they give chuckle as fab blushes "oh shut up we aren't going to be kissing" they defend.

"hey maeri actually are you busy after school?" i ask as fab leaves to their last class. "oh no i have club after school, why?" she replies pondering why i'm asking. i simply explain i was gonna be stuck constructing sets and was wondering if i could get some help and i see them light up "well i may be busy but i know someone who could help" they beam and pull out their phone at the same time we finally sit down in our seats for our last class, thank fuck it's an easy class.

I see them typing something "oh i wouldn't wanna bother anyone i was-" i was trying to get them to stop but she cut me off. "alright i get it your antisocial, come on you can't just keep hiding forever ya gotta talk to people and ya never know you might even get some bitches" chuckling at herself they keep typing something and put their phone down i assume waiting for the other person to respond. "i'm not THAT bad i just don't wanna inconvenience someone besides i get loads of bitches" i reply. "anime bitches don't count besides i promise you she has nothing better to do-" i quickly jokingly quiestion them "oh so who's the lucky girl getting stuck helping me" giving a joking lip bite.  "ew stop nope never do that ever again" maeri deadpanned and then rolled their eyes and nonchalantly said "i'm asking Mars"

"WHAT?!!" i shout in shock, luckily the room is loud enough no one really cares or notices. "You. Asked.Mars?!" i emphasis every word looking at Maeri for any sign of this being a joke. Mars isn't the best person in the school they are a trouble maker constantly getting in fights and detention. She somehow still passes regardless of them failing most of their classes, atleast so i heard. No one would be caught dead stuck in a room with them, not to mention, AFTER SCHOOL ALONE. Maeri looks at me wide eyed but then confused "what the hells wrong with Mars?? i've been friends with them for years don't worry about it" he waves me off as they check their phone as i'm lost in thought 'Maeri and Mars FRIENDS?? wtf i've never seen them hangout or anything, well to be fair i avoid mars at all costs knowing their reputation. i haven't even heard of anyone being close to mars how could maeri even achieve that? well i guess he is telling the truth since they obviously are texting them currently' "OTTERLY" maeri snaps me out of thought and i quickly look at them. "She said she can after her after school detention which would only be for a little bit" Maeri says and as they keep explaining i space out again 'she said yes? wait THE MARS actually offered to help with something non violent, drug, crime, or anything like that related. okay maeri must be blackmailing her or something cause there is no way'.

"Don't worry i made them promise they will be on their best behavior besides they aren't THAT bad" Maeri said noticing my slight worry, jokes on them tho i wasn't slightly worried i was VERY NERVOUS. I decide to sketch out set ideas while i imagine different scenarios on how this would go down.

'I could always just not show up, or would they find me and kill me for abandoning them? maybe i could just excuse myself to the bathroom and hide out in the green room, no no i cant cause that's where fab and mokey are practicing lines- WAIT that's perfect if it all goes south i will run to the green room i'm sure fab and mokey could help or atleast i wont have to die alone' "otterly" 'but what if they see i'm actually hella weak. what if she actually bullies me for how i look?? i mean yea i am only in jeans and a pokémon hoodie- NOOOOOOO mars is gonna think i'm such a loser god damn it, this hoodie is a literal bully magnet like how could they NOT bully me' "otterlyyyyy" 'i could just take off my hoodie but i have an anime shirt and that's even worse then a pokemon hoodie. god whyd i have to wear this today i hate my wardrobe i should just burn all my clothes and maybe myself cause-'

"OTTERLY" i jump out of my seat as i panicked and looked at whoever yelled at me. Maeri stood infront of my desk cross armed "Dude the bell ran, are you good? you were VERY lost in your mind" as i took a couple breaths trying to erase all my 'what if' thoughts since they aren't that helpful right now.

"sorry i'm just-" "scared shitless of being alone with a girl" he chuckled at me. i sighed "no- well yes but no" technically i was scared to be alone with mars but not because they are a female but because it's MARS. Maeri must of understood what i meant and got rid of their joking demeanor "look man i swear mars isn't that bad i mean you get along with me and fab i promise you can get along with mars" "but you are fab aren't violent and probably have a criminal record" i retaliate and maeri rolled their eyes "oh please IF mars was dangerous they wouldn't be going to school, if they had a long criminal record they would be IN JAIL. look otterly no hard feelings but i think you are judging a book by its cover" getting a bit ticked off i snap at her "i don't need to read the book when i see the back of the book telling me what i'm about to get into, and maybe you have a point about the not being in jail and such but people get away with shit all the time-" i stop myself as i see their face noticing they seem very hurt and offended.

i take a deep breath "fine i'll try to see how this goes and i will give them the benefit of the doubt" then maeris expression turns into a warm smile as they give me a hug "thanks otterly" they then run off to their club as i begin gathering everything i need before heading off to the school theater.

( sooooo school sucks i hate testing but decided i wanted to update but schools been so busy i combined school and the story to hopefully make it easier and i cant wait to add more to this au. i might wanna also explain this book is a one shot book but basically i'm giving different prompts in more then one part cause ideas just flood my brain and i cant be bothered sticking to one.

( Edit 2: NO HATE TO MOKEY okay this AU makes it seem like he is an annoying asshole but that's just the role he plays kinda the loud friendly kid, i in no way shape or form actually think he is an annoying asshole and this isn't slander cause he is actually a really good streamer and person, again this is just the ROLE he has been assigned trust me it will make even more sense as the story goes on)
