It was 7:23 AM at the Coyle residence, Mac and Dylan were having breakfast with Alice and Gerry, Mac wasn't too fond of this because of how she had to go to school soon and would usually just buy something to eat on the way, but Gerry insisted that they at least did one thing together as a family and as much as mac disliked her father, she complied.
"So, Mackenzie." Her step-mom started off with, she knew mac hated being called her full name but she let it go as her dad would get angry and it was too early for that just now.
"Got any boys on your mind recently?" Alice grinned as mac sat in her chair pushing at her scrambled eggs, Gerry smiled as well and Dylan kicked his sister under the table.
"Fuck off, Dylan." Mac scoffed and Dylan laughed.
"Anyway, no I don't." Mac replied sternly, when she said that Alice's face dropped, Mac sat up a bit and tried to eat but got interrupted.
"Oh, come on. There has to be at least one boy you have your eyes on! Is there really no cute boys in your classes?" Alice cracked her knuckles as she spoke which annoyed Mac. Sure, she cracks her knuckles all the time, it just annoyed her how Alice was doing it. Alice could be breathing and Mac would be annoyed.
"No, they're all idiots. How 'bout you, Alice? got any boys on your mind recently?" Mac said with a cocky smirk on her face, Alice was so shocked she could barely get any words out of her mouth, she just kept stuttering.
"Hey, drop it." Macs father stepped in, she rolled her eyes and nodded, Alice gave her snarky smile and Mac mocked her. She continued to eat her scrambled eggs.
"Oh, that reminds me! Mac, you know how Dylan is a camp counsellor now?" Gerry put his fork and knife down as he had finished his meal, Mac nodded in response to his question instead of talking because she had a morsel of eggs in her mouth.
"Funny thing, there was one more space in that camp and the other staff asked Dylan if he knew anybody who could fill in the last spot." Gerry said and Mac's face dropped, she knew what was going to happen next.
"And he said his sister is free all summer! how nice of him." Mac shot Dylan a glare and Dylan smirked, Mac knew she had nothing to do because she had nobody to do things with, but going to a summer camp was a whole other thing, Mac was content with rotting away in her room, now she has socialise with other people? she could barely even talk to her family let alone strangers, and Dylan will be there so that'll be just wonderful.
"No way. Nu-uh." Mac said as she stood up, she gathered all the dishes - even though Alice wasn't done - and she put them in the kitchen.
"Just think about it! you could finally make some friends, gumdrop."
Mac almost threw up at the idea of friends and how her father just called her gumdrop, Gerry smiled big and wide.
"You will genuinely have to force me." Mac said as she put on her green jacket and made her way to the front door.
"Suck it, asshole!" Dylan shouted but quickly got shushed by Mac and Gerry.
Mac walked out of the door after cussing to her family a little bit, she hopped on her bike and rode away, she didn't have her paper route today so she just made her way to school, on her way she looked around her street that was covered in dirt and trash, she thought maybe it would be nice to get away from here for a bit but then quickly shook her head.
"Fuck that." Mac mumbled quietly, she didn't want to go, Dylan would only annoy her let alone the other campers, she doesn't like having friends, they weigh her down.

KJ was in the kitchen with her mother and father, she was wearing her school uniform eating a bit of buttered toast.
"Karina, honey. Could you pass me a cup please?" Nora asked her daughter and KJ did so.
"You excited for camp tomorrow, champ?" Ozzie asked and KJ's face lit up.
"Yes, I am! I'm so ready to beat everyone at hockey." KJ held her hockey stick out like a sword and Ozzie laughed.
"You'll get 'em, Kaje. Don't you worry." Ozzie took a sip of his coffee and then checked the time.
"Don't encourage her violence, Ozzie." Nora said, jokingly as Ozzie laughed again.
"I'm so excited to see Tiff and Erin there as well!" KJ stated happily, she doesn't get to see the two girls that much because they go to a different school than her.
"Yes, sweetie. But make sure to make new friends as well." Nora told KJ, she nodded in agreement and tightened her ponytail.
"Well, we better get going, kid." Ozzie said and KJ ran towards the door, her dad kissed Nora goodbye then the two drove off to school.
After the silence simmered in, KJ put the radio on and bobbed her head to the music.
"Kaje?" Ozzie asked, still looking towards the road.
"Yeah, dad?" KJ replied, patting her hands on her lap in a rhythmic pattern, she did that when she got nervous or even just when she felt like it.
"Are you doing alright?" Ozzie turned to his daughter who looked like she had just seen a ghost, it was a very random and rare question KJ got asked, she nodded and smiled slowly.
"Just checking in on you. I love you, Okay?" Ozzie smiled and ruffled KJ's hair.
"I love you too, dad." KJ smiled softly as the car stopped, she got ready to get out of the car but her dad prevented her.
"Good luck in hockey, go get 'em for me, ay?" KJ nodded excitedly and ran into the school all cheery, her dad watched her run in and smiled to himself.
