First it was the sight of his brother that caught Neteyam's attention.

He was tense.

Then it was Kiri's annoyed expression in front of Lo'ak.

And lastly it was Ao'nung and Rotxo's smug grins.

They were laughing and talking about something Neteyam couldn't hear.

****

Earlier, Kiri sat on the sand, partially submerged in the clear water of the beach as she gazed into the shallow waters.

She was fascinated by this place and all its creatures. It was all so very interesting to her.

Her peace had been interrupted by no other than Ao'nung and his little friend Rotxo. Seriously, were these two obsessed with her? She had no idea what the problem was.

She understands the Metkayina clan doesn't particularly like them. Even after weeks they still gave her odd looks. They never actually interacted or done anything physically to show their distaste which she was grateful for.

But these two were entirely different stories. Tsireya hasbeen nothing but kind to Kiri and her siblings since they settled here. Always making sure to keep everyone in check.

She seems like the only one who actually liked them.

She had no idea how to feel about the eldest of the four. You made it painfully clear that you would rather have nothing to do with them. However, she could at least say you actively mind your own business.

Which made her think you genuinely hated them to a point where even seeing their faces would drive you mad. That's what she thought for the first couple of days anyway.

Why wouldn't you do everything you can to avoid having any interaction with someone you don't like? Kiri does so. It's nothing new.

These two in front of her didn't seem to understand that. They really got a kick out of this, didn't they?

Kiri sighs and rolls her eyes hoping she looks as annoyed as she felt.

They laughed not paying attention to her actions. They continued to pick on what she was doing. Saying that she was weird or a 'freak' that's how they loved to put it.

She didn't need to question it. They really got a huge damn kick out of this.

She quickly stood up not even looking in their direction as she made her way out onto the beach. She tried her best to ignore them and just get on with her day. Getting away from this humiliating interaction.

They noticed her attempt which gave them all the more reason to get the girl's attention as they kept taunting her.

Did they not have a life? Kiri thought to herself in pure spite.

"Where do you think you are going?" Ao'nung asked and tried to hide his laughter as he mocked Kiri's attempts of a clean get away.

"Hey!" Lo'ak storms up to them his hands in tight fists beside him. Kiri doesn't like where this is going. She knew her brother. She could practically hear his wild thoughts wandering this way and that.

He would turn this into a bigger problem than it was and -as always - draw more attention to them. She grimaced at the thought. Kiri could picture Jake's fed upexpression in the back of her mind. Lo'ak would surely give his father a permanent headache at this point.

She could faintly seethe outline of Neteyam's figure behind Lo'ak. He was likely debating whether or not to follow his brother. Their father had basically crowned him Lo'ak's personal babysitter. She felt pity for him even though she never admitted to it. Lo'ak was a handful.

"What do you think you're doing?" He yelled and tried to look as intimidating as possible. He failed dramatically. Kiri noted.

Ao'nung stepped up in front of him and it didn't help that he was taller than Lo'ak. He clearly doesn't take him seriously.

Neteyam takes his unpredictable brother by the shoulder and gently shoves him back with enough force to keep him away from the chief's son. He glared at Ao'nung pushing him back with a finger to his chest.

Ao'nung raised his hands in the air in mock surrender. It reminded him of something he had seen a little while ago, though this sight before him was far less appeasing.

He didn't need any explanation for what was going on at the moment.

The other boy actually listened even though it was a half-hearted surrender. He would definitely pull a stunt like this soon with the exact same smug expression on his face.

"Let's go." Neteyam told his brother sternly. The situation was almost done and over.Neteyam almost sighed in relief.

That was if Lo'ak hadn't turned around.

Oh, no...

Neteyam should've stopped his stupid brother.

Short chapter before the more longer chapters!

So, I want to point out that I am purposefully creating these long chapters.

It's a semi- slow burn after all. I'm still not sure how many chapters I want it.

Probably not over 30 or 25.

I'm debating whether or not to put in the actual plot of Avatar in this story. (Like the 'sky people' drama)

Now back to more relevant information!

Like I said before I am purposefully making these 'long' chapters so what I mean by this is that the gaps between certain events are longer and more time passes because obviously I don't want a rushed story here. Don't think I'm writing this unintentionally I beg you.

Just know that I am running slow on the actual original plot of Avatar to fill in some plot gaps and relationship stuff.

Thank you and stay safe^^
