In the depth of a Moulin rouge nightclub, he sat brooding, surrounded by the cacophony of alcohol. Despite downing two bottles, his taste in companions unsatisfied. As each potential encounter approached, they quickly realized his indifference ; none could pique his interest, leaving him in a state of mounting frustration.

A woman slid into the seat beside him, her intentions clear as she tried to catch his eye. He offered her only a smirk, a look so dismissive that she recoiled, labeling him a jerk before storming off. He was reaching for a third bottle when his phone rang, the screen illuminating the word  " don't pick up the call".

He answered, his voice tinged with sarcasm, only to receive news that sliced through the haze of alcohol.

" sir, it's urgent. Your mother is on her deathbed and wishes to see you one last time," the voice on the other end conveyed with a seriousness that sobered him slightly.

"what? Are you telling me to traumatize that woman before she dies? Is that is, choi?" he retorted, his tone cold as he stood and made his way out of the club.

The Paris streets glistened under the night sky, leaves rustling softly, adding a surreal quality to his brisk walk.

" this time you have to come back, the shares - " the voice tried to continue, but he cut him off.

" give them to my sister. I don't want anything from that shitty company," he snapped, his mind made up, about to end the call.

But the man on the line persisted.
" it's an order from Ms. Ji won. She wants to see you."

Those words halted him in his tracks. Ms. Ji won's command carried a weight he couldn't ignore.

" book My flight for tomorrow, choi. I'm coming back, if it's an order of my noona." he conceded, the defiance draining from his voice as he pocketed his phone and stared down the street.

After two days, he found himself back in Korea, specifically in Busan, a place he had vowed never to return to. He felt like he had nothing left there, no one he considered close. Coming back for such a reason was something he had never anticipated. Yet, the words of his sister had a profound impact on him. He would often rebel against his father, but when it came to his sister, he always tried to stay on her good side, even though it seemed impossible.

As he entered the house, more akin to a mansion, he couldn't shake the feeling of being overwhelmed. Meeting his father, who is the owner of king group, a conglomerate spanning airlines and world - renowned hotels. Hotel King . However, his step mother and step sister also resided there . His father had remarried right after his mother's death when he was 12, bringing his stepmother and step sister, who was five year older than him, into their lives. Despite his disdain for his father's actions, he cared deeply for his stepsister, viewing her as a new sibling in his life.

Reflecting on these memories, he made his way through the hallway and into the living room, flanked by two bodyguards trailing behind him. His father sat on the couch, newspaper in hand, with cigarette between his fingers.

He made his way straight to his room, his father glancing up from his newspaper as he passed.

" I see you're here," his father remarked casually.

" yeah, I guess so," he replied, pausing in the middle of the room. His bodyguards greeted his father before retreating.

" where are your manners? Your father sitting right in front of you, don't you know how to greet? " his father chided, setting the newspaper aside and exhaling smoke from his mouth.

" I left them in Paris. I'll get them when I go back," he responded coolly before turning and heading back into his room, his expression remaining unchanged.

His father hissed in anger, his frustration evident.

Later, at dinner time, the dining table was set with an array of dishes, yet only three people set around it, each silently focused on their food. Jungkook hated this the feeling of emptiness and coldness that permeated the atmosphere, despite being in his own house with his own family.

Jungkook's father continued his meal unperturbed, his voice and authoritative.   "  let me make this clear. You are not going back to Paris. It's been a year, and the rumors have begun to fade. You're going back to school here and finishing your studies."

Jungkook's retort was equally firm, his anger barely contained.   " then let me
Make this clear too. I'm not staying here, not in this house. Nor am I studying at that school. "

The clatter of utensils abruptly cut through their standoff as Ji won, who had been eating quietly, slammed her fork and knife down, making Jungkook flinch. Both turned to her as she raised her voice, a rare occurrence that underscored the seriousness of the moment.

" stop it, Jungkook. That's no way to speak to your father. Where are your manners?" she admonished sharply.

Jungkook met her gaze, her expression unreadable, her voice cold and detached.

" if father says you're staying, that means you're staying. No buts, no arguments, " she continued, her tone softening slightly as she took a sip from her wine glass.

Resigned, Jungkook finally acquiesced with a simple, " Okey." his reply was more than just agreement.

His father broke the silence with a firm tone, reminding Jungkook of his responsibilities.

" you're the rightful heir to the group, and now that you've turned twenty, it's high time you began learning the ropes of the business from your sister, just look at her, how perfectly she has managed everything in just two years of learning."    he declared. Jungkook cast a glance at Ji won, who continued to eat her meal in silence, deliberately avoiding his gaze.

Expressing a brief thanks for the meal, Jungkook stood up from the dining table.

" I'm going to my room now. I'll visit mother tomorrow," he announced, his tone carrying a mix of resignation and firmness. Without waiting for a response, he walked out of the dining room.

A few minutes later, there was a soft knock on his door, opening it, Jungkook's face lit up with a rare smile upon seeing Ji won. It had been a year since they last met, and despite their differences, he was genuinely pleased to see her.

Ji won entered his room, her expression unreadable. She handed him a key, her voice cold and sharp.
" I bought this for you. From now on, stay there. Don't stay here. We can't share same roof. Or I'll leave the house."
She instructed succinctly.

Jungkook nodded.  " thank you, Noona. Rest assured, I have no intentions of staying here longer than necessary. And I'm not interested in the business, " he added, hoping his smile would lighten the mood.

Ji won's response was curt, her impatience thinly veiled. " I don't care what you're up to, Jungkook. Just don't waste my time, " she said before turning sharply and exiting his room. Left alone, Jungkook sighed deeply, the weight of the family expectations pressing down on him.

Jungkook slid the keys into his pocket, his fingers brushing against the familiar metal of his bike keys nestled in the drawer. Just as he had left it a year ago, untouched and undisturbed. True to his sister's promise, his room remained exactly as he had left it. With a sense of familiarity and comfort, he retrieved his bike keys and headed out.
