Himiko was frantically pacing around the hand scanner.
"Hmm," She was thinking to herself. "No, I finally forced myself to come here today. I can't back down now." Himiko put her hand on the scanner when a robotic voice came out from it.
"Your handprint is being scanned. Please wait." The voice said. This surprised Himiko, and she stepped back.
"Wah!" Himiko fell on the floor. "Ow... I-i can't do it. It's too much for me right now." She walked away from the building. She was walking home when she was passing by the beach, and she decided to relax there.
"The beach. Huh, didn't think I would be walking back here again." Bubbles were coming up from the sea as she sat down on the sand. "It's always beautiful this time of year." She stared off into the endless sea.
"Well, I should probably get going." She got up from the sand. As she walked home she realized a boy on the shore. "O-oh my god!" She ran to the boy. "Hey!" She was shaking him. "Are you okay?"
"Ugh..." As he got up from the sandy shore, he looked at Himiko. He kept a blank face as he looked at her.
"Oh thank goodness! You're okay! Are you hurt?" She looked at him, concerned.
"I..." He looked around. "I'm fine, but who are you?"
Himiko smiled. "I'm Himiko. And you?"
He hesitated for a second. "I think I'm Hitsuei."
Himiko looked at him. She questioned what he said. "What do you mean by, 'I think?'"
"Well, I don't really know. I don't remember anything." He looked at her. Himiko looked shocked.
"Really? That's... concerning. You really can't remember anything?"
"What do you think? What would I gain for lying about that?"
Himiko frowned. "I'm sorry. You're right."
"No, no. Don't blame yourself. I snapped, I'm sorry. It's only natural that you would doubt me at least a little bit."
"Okay, thank you." Himiko smiled. "So, do you have anywhere to go? I mean, you don't have any memories do you?"
"Uh, no. I don't. Why?" Hitsuei asked.
"Well, I have a huge favor to ask."
Hitsuei and Himiko walked up to the building.
"This the place?" Hitsuei asked.
"Yes. This is it."
"Please, explain what this is to me again?"
"Of course!" Himiko filled with joy as she brought out a journal.
"I don't need the whole explanation. Give me a simple run down."
"R-right." She awkwardly put the journal back in her pockets. "This is the Protection Society. It helps people in need. To get in they need to scan your handprint. I'll go first." Himiko put her hand on the scanner.
"Your handprint is being scanned. Please wait." The voice said.
"Wah!" Himiko almost took her hand off, before Hitsuei budded in.
"Hey! You want this don't you? Then what are you doing?"
"R-right." Himiko settled her hand back down. As it finally finished scanning the voice went back on, and the doors opened.
"Welcome!" A man came out the doors. "You've been allowed in!"
"Thank you!" Himiko walked over to the doors and looked back at Hitsuei.
"Oh, you. Did you scan your hand already?" The man said.
"Me?" Hitsuei asked.
"Of course you!"
"Sorry, no. I'll do it now." Hitsuei walked over to the scanner and put his hand on it. The voice started up.
"Your handprint is being scanned. Please wwwwwWaudgwaGDUW" The voice stuttered and the machine just suddenly turned off.
"W-woah! What just-?" Hitsuei looked at the machine. "Did I break it? How?"
"That's... Never happened before. How did it break?" The man looked around. "Never mind that, you can come in for now. When we get it fixed we'll try again."
"Um, okay?" Hitsuei walked over to the doors. "Hey, uh, Himiko, was it?"
"Yeah?" Himiko asked.
"Do you think you know how I broke that?"
"I... Don't know. Do you have any ideas?"
"Nope."
"Huh." Himiko pushed the door open. "Well, I wouldn't worry about it for now. You're allowed in the building."
"Fair enough." Hitsuei looked back at the machine. Then he looked back at Himiko.
"Let's go inside for now." Himiko looked straight into the building. She started walking into the building.
"Right." Hitsuei caught up with Himiko. After walking in the doors, they walked down the stairs into the lobby.
