CARLYN'S HEAD WAS still pounding as she sat in between Tara and Mindy in the back of an ambulance. The three of them silently stared at the ground. Anika was dead, and Carlyn couldn't help but hate herself for leaving the dresser. If she'd just stayed there, Ghostface wouldn't have been able to get in and Anika would be alive.

Why did she always do that?

She did it when Tara was first attacked, then she did it when Wes died, and now with Anika. It should've been her instead of them each time — it was supposed to have been her.

The only think that ripped her out of her self-loathing was Chad storming away from the ambulance. Carlyn looked up, watching as he pinned Ethan against a car. "Where were you?" Chad demanded.

"What — when?" Ethan stammered, taken aback by his roommate's sudden aggression.

        "Last night!" Chad shouted.

"I had Econ! You know this!"

"Bullshit, man," Chad spat, shoving the boy back into the car. "You disappear and my sister and my best friend almost get killed!"

"Dude, I was in a study hall with a hundred other people!" Ethan defended himself. "You can ask any of them."

Chad hesitated for a second before he let go of Ethan. "Fuck, man."

Ethan's attention moved to the alley where Anika's body was along with a ton of cops. "Oh my God," his eyes widened. "Who?"

"Anika," Chad answered him. "And Quinn."

Chad turned around and headed back to the ambulance, Ethan followed after him. "Mindy, I'm so sorry."

"Step the fuck back," Mindy sneered. Ethan immediately stepped away. "You're at the top of my list."

"I had Econ!" he insisted. His eyes flickered to Carlyn, knowing that if any of the people there would believe him, it would be her. "Carlyn. . ."

There was a slight ache in her heart as she looked back at the ground, away from him. She wanted to believe him and he had sent her snapchats of him in class, but there were so many different possibilities.

"I'm gonna be right back," Tara softly told them, standing up and walking over to the alley, leaving the other four in silence.
