A/N: Slight edit, I will no longer refer to this as the story description but rather as the prologue or introduction chapter

Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games. Called DMMORPGs for short. These are games that allow someone to immerse themselves into a virtual world as if actually in it. Many have been made, but two stand at the top.

In the number two spot is Yggdrasil. The game was widely popular in Japan, sporting an expansive world map and an unusual degree of player freedom that quickly gained it the number one spot, but only briefly.

The number one spot however, is now held by a more recent DMMORPG based on a now ancient game originally meant for tabletop play. Keeping its original name, this game is widely popular in the US but has players from all over the globe. This modernized classic is none other than: Dungeons & Dragons. This game is said to allow ultimate player freedom, from character creation to even world building. Players can host their own private worlds and campaigns outside the default choices, all of which still being fully customizable and can use presets from previous and current editions. Fantasy, Sci Fi, Biopunk, Steampunk, its all up to Player preference. There is even an option of procedurally generated sandbox worlds for players to do absolutely anything and everything.

With this in mind, it was no wonder that it was ultimately steamrolling the Japanese born game as popularity quickly shifted throughout a few short weeks. The corporation that owned D&D was unlike most others, they weren't as malicious and cutthroat. Though it was still very unexpected for them to partner with Yggdrasils corporate owner, all in an attempt to keep a good game alive. Obviously there were crossovers in the form of events and even both free and paid content, eventualy leading to a semi-merging of the two top titles, but sadly it still wasn't enough to keep Yggdrasil alive for long.

After twelve years, the Yggdrasil devs decided to pull the plug.

One player of max level in D&D had transferred his character data into Yggdrasil after the merge and decided to log onto the second place game one last time, paying his respects. He was known as Kult, an Ulitharid Mindflayer and wizard who was immensely powerful in both magic and psionic combat. He had already met one of the games top guilds, Ainz Ooal Gown, not long after transfer. He had become quick and close friends with the guild leader, Momonga, as well as a few other members. The two players eventually considered eachother as brothers, so to no one's surprise, Kult was soon offered a spot on the guild. What was surprising however, was that this "spot" was basically Momonga's right hand. A "vice leader" if you will. It was an offer Kult graciously accepted.

Now, here, on the day of shutdown, he decided to spend the games last moments alongside his virtual brother from across the world.

Only to discover that fate... decided to make things very interesting for the two rulers.
