Whispers, quiet whispers of that voice echoed as my body panicked and stirred awake.

I couldn't feel anything and thoughts orbited my mind as I processed my dream.

I had been having these nightmares almost constantly for the past couple of nights, ever since I turned 17 life's been changing a lot recently. The human mind can do strange things to contemplate situations and I believe the sudden tweaks in my life have caused them.

My father, the one I've looked up to my whole life. He's always been my hero, the one that protects me from any distress or situations that may cause my happiness to be in jeopardy.

Unlike my mother who used to be like that, but over the years she's begun to lose her shine. Yelling over the little things and not wanting to assist in the big ones; they do say time changes everything. My father can't do as much as he used to so I can understand the struggle for my mother right now yet in times like this I just wish she could be more

It was frustrating as dry sweat cleaved to my forehead from my sudden distress. I brought my hand up to wipe it away.

It was hot and arid, the exact feeling you get when something terrible has happened. Your palms get sweaty and your heart rate is faster than a speeding train.

I hated the sensation.

You'd think after all these sleepless nights I'd be used to it by now but unlike a passing migraine one can't seem to prepare for it and there's sadly no antidote for bad nightmares.

I cupped my cheeks before lightly slapping them to jolt my mind from its wanderings.

A dim light peaked its way through the silk curtains that lay behind me and bounced off my pale-coloured covers as they clung to my body like a cocoon. I shifted and turned, trying to unravel myself from the thick cotton fabric.

The room stood still as I repositioned myself, the light sound of my blankets rummaged through the space as I slouched up from my curled-up ball on the bed.

Glancing around my room, my eyes were immediately drawn to the parted curtains with the break of dawn shying through them, It was probably just past 5 if I had to guess.

My hand reached up, separating them. I squinted but just for a moment, it wasn't very bright out.

Last year you'd never catch me dead being up before the sun had fully rizzen (Ha Rizzen as in Riz get it...ha...yea?......... nvm) . I was always a wanderer when everyone would fall asleep.

I had a secret latch on my window that I would sneak out and wander around the village. There wasn't much to see because most people would have shops closed for the night yet I found the quiet stillness calming for my overreactive brain. I trotted around the houses to this well-abandoned farm. It had a smooth dirt road leading to a large open grassy field filled with lavender flowers, mid-summer was when they'd usually bloom. They soon became my favourite flowers and I adored every chance I saw one. Every night I sneak out there, to the purple grassy field, sweet scents always meeting me during my returns.

I've never had any control over my life so this was an escape for me, from my parents.

I reached for the small metal handle on the bottom of my window, the light wasn't bright enough to fully make it out, but by now I knew where it was. I turned it clockwise to unlock it before it swung open. The brisk air flowed into my room, and the aromas of the cold mourning danced around my nose. Goosebumps ran down my arms and legs as I plunged my body forward to the now-open window. I looked down and then to my door and took a deep breath before fully emerging into the frigid air. I steadied myself onto the thin bage railing of my window as my one hand held onto the top of the windowsill, barely touching the glass. The other hand balanced itself next to my feet. It was a far jump, just barely 10 feet high, although I was more concerned with sound. I took one last breath before jumping and gracefully reaching the soil dirt ground with a slight thump onto the thick grass. I barely made any, good.

Wind gushed through my face as I ran
throughout the village. Houses with sleeping families were already behind me as I reached my destination. I felt so alive, no feeling in the world could compare to this one. I dashed towards the barn with lost animals peacefully resting inside. The field behind it is now in view. My bare feet grazed the dirt pavement and once I touched the grass I let out a small yelp of joy. A smile inched onto my lips as I twirled around in excitement. Birds chirped a beautiful mourning song as I swung around the field of gardened lavenders, their cent was elegant and dearly missed.

I was finally here again, my only true home.
