Their session at the gym had been draining and Erling was counting down the seconds until he could take a hot shower and sleep for at least a couple of hours. As they headed to the lockers, Jack was telling him about a series he was watching and the younger man was doing his best effort to follow the plot without much success.
"Hey, Erling." Julián's voice interrupted Jack's retelling of the last episode he'd watched. Both men turned to the Argentinean player. "Hola , Jack."
"Juli, everything alright?"
" Sí, I uhm... Thanks for calling today," he said with a small flush to his cheeks.
Jack raised an eyebrow and bit his lips to stop himself from saying anything, he was much more preoccupied with the way his friend was looking at Julián.
"Sure, no problem." Erling extended his hand and gave a quick squeeze to Julián's bicep. Jack was practically vibrating next to him. "Whenever you need it."
"Right, gracias." He smiled at Erling for a couple seconds, his eyes sparkling as if he had just scored. Erling found it very hard to ignore the butterflies on his stomach. Juli waved somewhat awkwardly before heading for the exit. "Bye, see you!"
Jack managed to hold his tongue for two whole seconds before he turned around and faced Erling, hands planted on his hips and a knowing smile on his lips. Erling rolled his eyes and started walking, trying to ignore him.
"So, calling your boy to wake him up now, are you?"
Erling stopped on his tracks and turned around. The red of his cheeks was victory enough for Jack, making him laugh way too joyfully for someone making fun of a friend.
"He's not my boy."
"Could have fooled me, mate."
"Oh shut up, will you?"
Jack threw both hands in the air with an annoyingly believable innocent smile. Erling pushed him as they entered the lockers and Jack laughed out loud.
Sometimes Erling hated Jack Grealish with a passion.
-.-
"Happy?"
Erling stopped drying his hair with a towel to look at Jack who had just sat next to him. The locker was buzzing with the energy of a well-earned victory and Erling wasn't an exception to it.
"Of course, we won," he replied simply, dropping the towel and fetching his comb from the bottom of his bag. "Aren't you?"
"Sure, but you know what I mean," Jack said, wiggling his eyebrows in a way that made Erling laugh.
"Actually, I don't, Jack."
The Englishman put a t-shirt on and approached Erling with a roguish smile. The other watched him with no small amount of apprehension since you never knew what Jack could be up to.
"Your boy scored and assisted you. You must be thrilled."
Erling let out a groan that attracted the attention of several teammates. A blush crept quickly to his pale cheeks, and it only grew redder when Jack laughed so loudly that even more people turned to look at them.
Erling sighed and pushed his friend, doing little to stop his amusement.
"What did Jack do now?"
Julián appeared out of the blue and Erling's heart skipped several beats. Jack seemed to be about to faint because of the incessant giggling. Erling was going to murder him. He took a deep breath and tried to offer Julián a somewhat normal expression on his face.
