The Ash of the Wolf

Chapter 5

I got up at about seven-thirty. I was facing the wood-plank lined walls, it turns out that they built small houses underground so no one could find the camp easily. Amber, Genesis, and Blake were already up. Amber was braiding Genesis's hair. I sat up and said, "Do you have a brush, and do you think you can braid my hair too?" Genesis looked my way, brought her legs in and patted at the floor for me to sit. I went over to her and sat down. She started to brush my hair softly, she grouped parts of my hair at the top of my head and started to French braid my hair. Once genesis was done, she stood up and grabbed my arm and led me to this little cubby you can wall. It was about seven foot deep and five foot wide. It was lined with cloths and shoes. I looked at her, she said, "You can change into anything you want, the left wall is women's cloths and right is guy's." I smiled and went to a section where shirts were short. I put on a red-violet crop top, I looked at the jean shorts and picked a pair of medium blue frayed shorts. I put it all on and picked some black vans.

I walked outside and saw a small building, Amber came up behind me and said, "That's the kitchen, we can get what we want." I ran to the small building and yanked open the fridge. I pulled out some eggs, I went rummaging through some cabinets and found a skillet. I went to the stove and started it up and began cracking eggs in the skillet. I found a fork and started to stir them to make an omelet, I found some bacon bits and put some of those in as well, I put shredded cheese, diced mushrooms, and basil in it as well. I cleaned up my mess and put my omelet on a plate and started eating. Sevy walked in and said, "Somethin' smells good." I had actually made another one in case I wanted another. "There's another one in the fridge if you want it," I offered. He opened the fridge, pulled it out, and slapped it on a plate. He took a seat across from me. 

"So, how are you liking the pack?" he says trying to start conversation. "It's pretty okay, everyone's friendly," I reply around my food. He nods in agreement. I mean, I could be at school trying to get into college. I look down, not hungry anymore. I had only a bit left anyways, I walked to the trash can dumping the food and the plastic plate in it. "I guess I'll see you later...." his voice faded as I climbed out from the slope to the kitchen door. My hand flew up to my locket, I popped it open. On the left side was a picture of my mom, dad, and brother. On the right was a picture of Adeline and me, arm in arm, holding James up in our free arms. I smiled faintly. I looked up to see Sage waving to her arm for me to come over. I run over and hear her say, "Come on, didn't Sevy show you the territory?" I nod, "Yea, I'm ready for all the training you got for me." She smiles at my enthusiasm. "Alright, one lap around the territory and we'll go from there, you can wait a minute if everyone else is almost ready and run with them." I stood there for a minute, Flynn, Genesis, Blake and Ember came out looking ready to train. "So we're just waiting on Amber and Sevy?" I ask. I heard someone murmur a 'yea.' I groan 'they take so long,'   My wolf whines. 

Everyone seems antsy at this point. "Ugh, let's just go, I know y'all want to wait for them but they can catch up later," I hear Genesis suggest. "Yes! Thank god someone suggested it....." I say. Genesis takes the lead with Ember beside her, Flynn takes stride to my left, Blake brings up the rear. After we get a little bit out in the woods everyone starts to take off their cloths. 'They want to save their cloths when they shift.'  I take off my shoes, shirt, and shorts. I throw them in their own little pile so no one takes them. Flynn and Ember have already shifted. Embers wolf is a faded yellow color, Flynn's is a mixture between black, brown, and grey. I shifted along with them. The boys looked at my black wolf as she stretched. 'Like what you see?'  I give them a wolfy smile. Ember threw his head back a barked loudly. I looked to Blake and Genesis who had already shifted. Blake's wolf was a walnut-like brown, Genesis's wolf was almost purely white, just very light grey hair on her back.

"Everyone ready?" I thought through the mind link. Nobody seemed to object that they weren't ready. I knew my wolf was fast so I decided to surprise them. I turned so I was facing the Northern Border and said, "First one to run around the territory first gets to eat first, last person has to cook!" And with that my wolf lunged off. I heard feet pound the floor in hot pursuit. I glanced behind me, Flynn was about four foot behind me. I had reached the border and started making my turn to to around the territory.....

I had gotten to a spot in the middle of the woods where trees surrounded a patch of grass, about twenty to thirty foot in diameter. It was big, our mentors told us to meet here. I had won the race, technically whoever was last with Sevy and Amber had to cook, but I got first person to eat so I was happy. I wolf panted for a minute. Whoever was here first brought our cloths. I took my cloths in my jaw and walk a little ways in the trees so no one could see me. Someone had brought me some under cloths because I had ripped them when I shifted. I silently thanked them. I shifted back and put on my cloths that I had picked out this morning. I found a clip in the bunch of cloths, I twisted my hair and clipped it up.

 I came back out to find Amber and Sevy there with everyone else stretching. "Who was last?"  I asked. They all pointed at Sevy. I smirk and say, "Good luck with cooking tonight." His eyes widened, "I have to cook?!" We all laugh. "Didn't Amber mention that?" Ember say. Sevy's eyes narrow and glares at Amber. I burst out laughing. Our mentors walked out of the woods. Sage was smirking at me. Midnight was covering for herself and Alpha and says, "Alright, lets begin."
