Ouch

Tim first looked down the cliffside, then began to stealthily (like a ninja) climb down the rockface. About 20 feet down, he looked back to where he last thought he saw his kids. With a look of horror that crossed his face, he realized the movement he and his wife had seen, was a male elk using his antlers to push the rubble away from his body, managing to wriggle free and run away.

At this point, Tim wanted to just give up. However, he believed he should push on forward and see if he could dig his kids out, anyway. In his grief, he missed his footing and tumbled down the remaining 20 feet. He heard his leg hit a rock ledge and crack. Ouch.

Andrea came back because she couldn't get a signal and needed to tell Tim. When she came back, however, there was no Tim. She looked over the side and gasped: Tim was lying on his back with his good leg twisted at an odd angle. Now, it was up to her to save the family.

She put down the backpack that she was caring and stealthily climbed down the rockface (like a better ninja), careful not to fall. She jumped the last five feet and landed next to her broken husband.

"Tim?" she whispered as she put her hand over his heart. It was beating rapidly.

Tim opened his eyes and reached his hand over to caress Andrea's cheek.

"It hurts." Tim answered raspily.

"I know. I know. Shh shh shh." whispered his wife.

Tears were streaming down her face and she nuzzled him with her cheek.

"Mommy?"
