If you were to talk about influential Korean personalities, you couldn't go long without mentioning the name Kim. Sure, it was the most popular last name in Korea, but even among the millions of Koreans with that name, one Kim was arguably more influential than anyone else.
Jennie Kim
A young woman, who's sharp gaze was not only able to foresee any development in the market, long before everybody else, but also to crack the most resilient opponents. Whether it be employees or rivaling CEOs, she saw through each and every one of them as if they were made out of thin paper. And so, it was only natural that young Miss Kim started her fashion label at a young age and from that moment, there was nowhere to go but upwards. Some of you might be wondering how such a young, inexperienced girl was able to find investors to start her own company at the age of eighteen years old. And if you are wondering, you clearly haven't been paying attention. Jennie always got what she wanted, and not just since she became super popular and filthy rich, but even before that. Her taste in fashion, her talent in designing and her charisma got all the potential investors wrapped around her finger and within two years, she was not only able to pay off her debts, but also to hire basically anyone she wanted. Sure, she was a cold hearted woman. But her name, and her wallet, carried such weight that no sane person would refuse to work for Miss Jennie Kim. So did that mean, young Lalisa Manoban could be considered a crazy woman?
"I'm.. I'm sorry, did I understand correctly?" Sitting behind her desk, Jennie's sharp eyes were firmly locked on the woman on the other side of the table, although a hint of confusion tainted her otherwise composed expression. "Did you say "no"?"
The woman Jennie was speaking to, a young woman from Thailand, called Lalisa Manoban, flashed Jennie an apologetic smile, yet her eyes shined with joy and carelessness. "Yes. I am very sorry, Miss Kim, and I am thankful for your generous offer. But accepting this job would mean that I would have to leave my family in Thailand. And that is something I can not do. I simply came here today to decline your offer in person, as a show of respect. And to make sure that there is no bad blood between us."
"Miss Manoban, you don't seem to understand what offer you are about to decline. Do you even know what it would mean for your career to work for me?"
However, the younger woman did not seem to be fazed by Jennie's persuasion attempts in the slightest. "With all due respect, Miss Kim, but I think you don't seem to understand. I already declined your offer." Her clear eyes were firmly locked onto Jennie's as the two women spoke. That alone was an outstanding feat. Usually, everyone would crumble under Jennie's sharp gaze sooner or later. Not so Miss Manoban. So either did this inconspicuous facade hide some immense willpower, or the young, naive lady was simply oblivious to the sheer danger that inherited Jennie Kim.
The older woman rose from her chair, and walked around the desk. Slowly. She always made sure not to make any hectic movements. Why should she? She had all the time in the world, even the sun wouldn't dare to go down until Jennie said so. And what was more important: The calmer you were yourself, the easier it would be for you to make the other person feel uneasy. The her black high heels clacked on the flawless marble floor with every step she took. Lisa eyes were firmly glued onto Jennie, following every single one of her fluid motions. But instead of Jennie's eyes, Lisa's focus was now redirected much more south. Miss Kim possessed a pair of legs, second to none. And the black, tight fitting skirt she wore showed them off perfectly. Now, Lisa herself had some well shaped legs of her own. But Jennie Kim's presence elevated everything to the next level. You know how even a plain, white t-shirt could be sold for double the price if just the right brand was written on it? Well, the real life equivalent to that was Jennie Kim.
"Do you know why I want to hire you, Miss Manoban?" The sharpness in her voice didn't go anywhere. After ten years in this position, you undoubtedly will run into people that try to resist at first. But Jennie Kim wouldn't be where she was today when she would take a no as an answer.
